Entering the game as 16-point underdogs, Minnesota looked poised early to perhaps upset Wisconsin and punch a ticket to Indianapolis for next weekend's Big Ten championship. But the Gophers couldn't keep their foot on the gas, and a costly fumble right before halftime swung the momentum in the other direction for the second half.
The Gophers remained optimistic after the loss, citing that the program has continued to move in the right direction. Minnesota finishes the regular season with eight wins and has a chance at a ninth if it can win its bowl game. But the sting of Saturday's loss will surely linger for a while.
