Huh? Colt McCoy named B12 POY, but only 2nd team all conf

That is probably the first time it has ever happened but I can't say it completely surprises me. McCoy, Bradford, and Harrell likely split the votes for 1st team and 2nd team. The QB position is so competitive in the Big 12 that Harrell is going to be a finalist for the Heisman--the best player in college football--and he wasn't even 1st or 2nd team in his conference.

To walk through the likely scenario, the AP has 20 voters and each voter gets a 1st and 2nd team vote which count equally. Imagine McCoy received 10 first team votes and 7 second team, Bradford received 9 first team and 9 second team, and Harrell received 1 first team and 4 second team. The vote count is Bradford 18, McCoy 17, and Harrell 5 which makes Bradford 1st team and McCoy 2nd team. However, because those 3 players likely received all of the POY votes and it was most likely split along the lines of the 1st team votes which means McCoy won. The other possible scenario is that some of the Bradford received more 1st place votes but some of those voters chose a non-QB (Crabtree) as POY.
