But guards Andre Hollins and DeAndre Mathieu and centers Elliott Eliason and Mo Walker struggled simultaneously in Minnesota's 70-61 loss to St. John's on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the NIT Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden.

"This group is pretty down right now," Pitino said Thursday. "They know they squandered a great opportunity to get a win against a good team on the road."

"Certainly, our senior guards are the guys who have got to carry us," Pitino said. "Nate was playing well. We certainly went back to him and probably needed him late in the game. But we have to rely on those two guys (Hollins and Mathieu) to make plays."

Go Gophers!!

"Pitino regretted not playing Mason down the stretch, leaving him on the bench from the 3:47 mark until 26 seconds left in the game. The game went from a tie to the Gophers trailing by eight points.

"I'm kicking myself for not getting Nate out there more down the stretch, but we needed to rebound the ball," Pitino said. "We've got to continue to find him more time. And we will moving forward. But he's still got a long way to go."

"But he's still got a long way to go."

That's not good to hear since both Dre's played worse than him.
