The quality of the two teams isn't the biggest reason Louisville's matchup with Minnesota is one of the most appealing games on Friday's season-opening slate.

It's the coaching matchup that ensures the game will feature plenty of intrigue.

On one bench is the Rick Pitino, firmly established as one of college basketball's icons after winning a pair of national championships and taking three different progams to the Final Four. On the other bench is Richard Pitino, the son of the legend and a man just beginning to carve his own legacy in the sport.

The elder and younger Pitino are college basketball's best father-son coaching combo and they've spent the months leading up to Friday's game playfully trash talking one-another through the press. They've met only once previously, a 79-55 victory for Rick's Louisville team over Richard's Florida International squad two years ago.

Friday's matchup promises to be far more compelling with Louisville a consensus preseason top 10 team and Minnesota returning three starters from its NIT championship squad of a year ago.
