Snow hit and 20-degree and below weather blew through Minnesota hard for the first time this month. But temperatures are supposed to be in the mid-80s where the 2014 Armed Forces Classic will be played on a U.S. Coast Guard base in Borinquen, Puerto Rico.

Such a drastic temperate change might take players by surprise if they weren’t getting ready for it.

“In the days leading up to us traveling tomorrow, we’ve been practicing in a gym that’s between 85 and 95 degrees,” junior forward Joey King said Monday. “We’ve just been really prepping for the heat and the recovery phase of it. We’ve been taking electrolytes and things that will help our body recover at a faster pace.”

Senior center Elliott Eliason joked that no teammates were sweating through multiple practice uniforms like senior guard Austin Hollins would last season.

“It’s really hot in there,” Eliason said. “I’m not going to lie. You notice immediately. It’s pretty intense. Austin would’ve gone through three or four (jerseys) by now.”
