CRUSHED!! Wow. That's our All American

Kvasnicka with a triple to follow. Pettersen reached on an error prior to the homer.

2-2 after one....could be a five hour game.

Gophers need bat/ball girls (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=27865&SPID=2173&DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=235134)

Okay, so the score is actually 2-2 and not 3-2? Got it.

Was a little confused there for a moment.:p

No announcers so I got the live stats window up as well. Gophers leave runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Ohio State up 13-6 in the eighth against Georgia.

MRJ
05-31-2009, 12:51 PM
Yeah, I saw on ESPN on some guy from OSU (Michael Stephens maybe??) hit an inside-the-parker in that game.

Seems the Buckeyes came in today looking to prove something to the same team that beat them 24-6 the other day.

crap Baylor scoring now.

gophersfan

5-2 Baylor.

MRJ
05-31-2009, 01:23 PM
Chauncy lost it there for a few batters. Hopefully he settles down from here on.

Need to get the bats going now.

You can get audio from this link.

I have that audio, and the video feed from gs.com, and they're actually very close, the audio is about a second ahead of the video, so not that difficult to watch.

Wow, now that's something I haven't seen in a baseball game, maybe, well, ever.....

The left fielder from Baylor fields McCallum's double down the line and in the process flips the ball into the stands. Pettersen scores from first on the play and McCallum ends up on third, making the score 5-3.

Then Kvasnicka homers to right center and we're all tied 5-5. A strange sequence of events, but hey, I'll take it!!!:D

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 02:06 PM
Minnesota just smack a 2 run homer to tied the game at 5. wow.

MRJ
05-31-2009, 02:32 PM
Oooh!!! Hope Geason is okay....:o:o

That one hit him pretty plush in the face. Hopefully, all the bones and teeth are safe....

Things have been weird but good the past few innings.

If we could get these last two runs home, that would be nice. :)

Chauncy has really stepped up since that fourth inning. This is probably the best groove I've seen him in over the past month (and a good time for it on top of that!!!:D)

One inning away from a meeting with the Tigers this evening....

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:00 PM
bases loaded 1 out. top of the 9th.

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:03 PM

gophersfan

2 run double. 13-5 Minnesota.

MRJ
05-31-2009, 03:06 PM
It's kind of crazy to think about, but it seems like the turning point was that flipped ball into the stands by the Baylor left fielder. Since that play, the Gophers have just been flying while the Bears have been sagging.

It's amazing a kind of nutty play like that could have an effect like it has.

Been out running around all afternnon but had game on the radio, ran into Home Depot right after McCallum's double but took a little too long and missed Kvansnicka's home run, but did hear the huge eigth inning. What a comeback. Great job from Chauncy in eating innings.

McCallum just doubled in two more, I believe that's 7 RBI on the day, 87 for the year to pass Quinlann for the Gopher record.

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:10 PM
a error by Baylor and 2 more run come home. 15-5 Minnesota.

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:16 PM
Top of the 9th is over. 5 run inning for Minnesota again. 15-5 Minnesota. bottom of the 9th coming up.

MRJ
05-31-2009, 03:17 PM
The offense has been incredible the last few innings. Shows that baseball is a momentum game because right now, everything is clicking. Chauncy has been outstanding since one tough inning in the fourth and everybody is hitting the ball right now.

Hopefully, we can close this out quickly and get some rest because it sounds like it is blisteringly hot down there right now.

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:21 PM
Baylor score 1. 15-6. 2 on no outs.

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:21 PM
damn it. we got trouble in the 9th.

JohnnyGopher
05-31-2009, 03:22 PM
It's sad but a 10 run lead is never safe in college baseball

first four hitters all rip the ball and Baylor has a run and bases loaded, no outs, I know we don't want to go to the bullpen but I think chauncy has hit a big wall.

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:24 PM
bases loaded for Baylor. pitching change for Minnesota.

MRJ
05-31-2009, 03:24 PM
Tried to go with Handran, but he ran out of gas. Not exactly surprising after 136 pitches and it being hot out. Lubinsky in and the radio guys are trying to figure out if Lubinksy will start the next game since he's pitching in this game.

The big thing now is just need outs. Don't care about score, just get three outs and move on to LSU tonight.

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:27 PM
single make it 15-7.

gophersfan
05-31-2009, 03:28 PM
Then a grand slam make it 15-11.

JohnnyGopher

Grand Slam Baylor

MRJ
05-31-2009, 03:32 PM
Now it's 15-11, seven straight hits for Baylor and still nobody out.

Yikes!!!!:eek::eek:

Bullpen has been in a funk. Lubinsky out, Rasmussen in and Matyas warming up.

JohnnyGopher
05-31-2009, 03:32 PM
this is not the way to end this game and get ready for LSU, now another single, maybe we won't have to worry about LSU at all.

I know we are not supposed to question Anderson but Chauncy should not of pitched the ninth, we have other arms like Ryan and Bechstein, who while not that good, at least we're fresh. Now we have to use Rasmussen and likely Maytas again.

Still have a four run lead but no outs and they are ripping the ball, this would be one of the most historic collapses in all of college sports so let's hope this ends soon.

JohnnyGopher
05-31-2009, 03:35 PM
Finally two out

gophersfan

2 out single. 15-12.

gophersfan

Minnesota end Baylor season. 15-12 win. we move on to face LSU.

JohnnyGopher
05-31-2009, 03:40 PM
Wow, was that crazy, Baylor gets 7 in the bottom of the ninth but Gophers hold on to 15-12 win. Hopefully that doesn't carry over.

LSU is sitting in pretty good position and it would be a schock if the next game is close but what the hell. who knows what we will do for pitching. Lubinsky didn't look that good but still could go, Klabunde, Sexton, Fern. I guess try to get 2-3 innings out of all of them and see where the cards fall.

MRJ
05-31-2009, 03:41 PM
Ummm, a little speechless right now. All you can say is a win is a win is a win.:D

That was pretty nuts and the guys on the radio were beginning to get pretty nervous. I wasn't really nervous, just kind of dumbfounded by what occurred the past three frames, including the ninth.

All that being said, it's nice to move on and face LSU in the regional title game!!!

Also, congrats to coach Anderson and the guys on making it to 40 wins again.... (40-18 with at least one more to go).

I'm with ya Johnny. Not sure what we're going to do between now and 6 p.m. in terms of pitching. I tend to think it will be "all hands on deck." I guess we'll probably have to break it down into one or two inning segments and go from there.

Either way, it's nice to have won a couple of NCAA regional games and have knocked both Southern and Baylor out of the tourney.

I think it also points out two things, one is the biggest difference in most northern and southern teams is the depth of there pitching and number two is don't lose early in a tournament.

Maximus
05-31-2009, 03:59 PM
Against LSU's #3 starter and we're pretty fryed with the pitching. McCallum with four hits and seven RBI...keep it up. We'll need that again.

Give up seven runs in the bottom of the ninth and win.....who knew?

MRJ
05-31-2009, 04:01 PM
I completely agree. And to be perfectly honest, one of the reasons we did well this year was because we had three reliable pitchers, none of whom were overpowering or true No. 1's, but three guys who were reliable to start games every weekend and at least keep us in games.

I'm not sure Ohio State has three. I thought that Wimmers was really good and Wolosianski was decent. But after that, I didn't think their pitching depth was as good as ours is to be honest.

On the other side of the coin, you have LSU, who has a whole bunch of options behind their top two or three and seemingly has depth everywhere, which is why we get to face Coleman and they get to face a pitcher by committee. Again, that's just the difference between northern and southern teams as it stands today.

I don't think any Minnesota fans are expecting to beat LSU tonight, most of us are just hoping to keep it respectable. Even though the Big Ten advanced two teams to the regional finals, all most fans will remember is Ohio State giving up 24 against Georgia and this Florida state game. If we get crushed tonight, the perception will be very negative on the Big Ten even though i don't think OsU and MN did that bad considering where they we're placed, now indiana is a completely different story.

Indiana kind of had a meltdown based on what I read. I honestly thought they were going to be a pretty competitive No. 4 seed. I guess Arnett pitched pretty well in the opener, but the Hoosiers started kicking the ball around in the field. As for the second game, I'm not sure what happened. But with Arnett and Bashore, I thought they could at least give themselves a chance to win a couple of games.

I'm actually pretty happy with our showing overall. I would love to push LSU a little bit tonight, but it's an uphill climb to be sure.

I'm just glad the gophers made it this far. Two wins in the NCAA's for this team is nothing to be ashamed of, IMO.

Tiki Owl
05-31-2009, 09:54 PM
Well two wins against less than stellar competition (Baylor really didn't belong) but still it's a good building block. Now if the U administration would just get behind the program things might move forward. Bottom line is that the Dome isn't the answer unless the Gophers really use it to their advantage by beefing up their OOC schedule by inviting other colder/cooler weather teams to play inside earlier in the season. I have never understood why only the DQ tourney has quality teams coming in. With the economy and travel costs why not run a spring break week inside the Dome for good northern teams that normally go to Florida/Texas/California?

Finally someone has to fire up the fans to attend the games...seeing attendances of 400/500 doesn't help convince the NCAA to place a regional in Minneapolis. Even on this board baseball is listed as "other sports" and on the Daily Gopher site it is listed as a "minor sport". A change in mindset needs to take place.

I agree about the dome. I do not know why Anderson plays more non-conference games there.

Tiki Owl

And it isn't just about games, the Gophers have the chance to practice on a real field while every other northern team is practicing in a gym or indoor football facility.

Lincoln gopher
06-01-2009, 02:23 PM
Actually each year more and more non conference and conference games are being played in the dome, unfortunately other than the Dairy Queen classic, not much top competition. Have to go back to 2002-2003 season, when Fullerton came to town for a 3 game series. 06-07 brought in Missouri State, who was pretty good at the time and 07-08 California, New Mexico and Missouri played at the dome. I am sure it is not easy to get Southern teams to come north even to play in the dome and certainly the Gophers are expected to return the favor for a year. Nebraska, even with there success and facilities have gotten just Arkansas and Alabama to come to Haymarket in the last 5 years. The rest of the non conference home schedule is pretty poor.

BoogeyMan
06-01-2009, 03:09 PM
The southern teams don't want to come play here. They know that Northern teams like the Gophers need to head south to get their games in. The Gophers could bring in some terrible teams, but Coach Anderson is always looking to play tough non-conference schedules. They could try to get a team like ASU here or someone else, but ASU knows that they could play homes games against other competion instead of traveling here.

On top of that, teams are scared to come play in the dome because they are not used to playing in that enviroment. Give us to much of a advantage they think.
