Southern vs Minnesota

that how you do it Gophers.

the lead off hitter hit a grounder to 2nd and Southern with a throwing error, runner on 2nd. next batter a single to the outfield. 1-0 Gophers.

Gophers put another on the board. Mike Kvasnicka single to score Derek McCallum and it 2-0 Gophers.

Gophers lead 5-3 heading to the bottom of the fourth. We had a chance at a big inning in the top of the fourth, but effectively ran ourselves out of the inning.

Hopefully, big Seth will sharpen things up in this frame as the last two have been shaky at best.

Just started watching in time to see Gominsky get his third hit of the day, a lead off triple and then get stranded at third. Seth with a four pitch inning and a great diving catch by Decker in the sixth.

Gophers breaking the game open. 3 run 7th so far. 8-3.

Gominsky a two run double, 8-3, Justin is 4 for 4, a double and a triple, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's.

Gominsky has been our best guy on the day by far. He's got four hits and is a home run short of the cycle. He's also rescued a few guys who have struggled with situational hitting.

Seth has also settled down a bit after having a little trouble in the second and third innings.

Big Seth out, Rasmussen in with the lead-off runner on for Southern in the bottom of the seventh and no outs.

Another pretty solid outing for Rosin. Hopefully the pen gets the job done and we can start thinking about tomorrow in a couple of innings!!!

Luke hits the first guy and then on a little grounded back to the mound, he bobbles it and runner is safe on the error so bases loaded, one out and now Fern in, Gophers season could be on the line right now, need to get out of this with only a run or two at the most scoring.

Fern comes in and gives up back to back singles. The first one Gominsky's throw was way up the line or else we had a sure out at home.

Now he throws a wild pitch and gives up a third single and the DAMN game is tied at 8. Anderson might of overthought this one and left Seth in or stayed with Rassmussenn a little longer. Fern is getting rocked and the Gophers season is close to being over.

He finally gets an out but then another hard single and then he balks runners to second and third before getting final out.

what a disaster of an inning.

Well, that didn't take long.

Two guys come in, can't get any outs, and give up five runs with still no one out. Now 8-8 and Southern has all the momentum in the world.

This is starting to look a lot like the Penn State game that cost us the Big Ten title. Only this time, if they continue to not be able to get outs, our season is over.

Geez that was pitiful. Wasted a good outing by Seth. Going to have to score a whole bunch of runs over the next couple of innings because the bullpen is again proving to be unreliable.

The one big problem I had with the top of the eighth is after having watched the opposition score at will against two of our bullpen pitchers, we offensively start playing for a single run, even though it appears that won't be nearly enough. That's happened a few times this year and it seems to always come back to bite us.

So we play for one run, which we were lucky to get at all, and put more pressure on bullpen pitchers who have already choked away a lead. And now, Fern gets one out and the next two guys get on base (not exactly a surprise given the way he pitched last inning) and now we have to sweat it out.

Seems stupid to me, but that's apparently how we're coached to play it.

For about the umpteenth time during the year, Matyas comes in and saves our bacon. :)

Thank god we have a reliable closer.....

Nice pitching and a nice catch to get out of the 8th. Hopefully, we can add a couple of insurance runs in the 9th.

wish we hadn't thrown Maytas yesterday as we are really wearing him out and there is still a long ways to go, good job getting out of the inning though.

Lead runner on, Gominsky bunts him to second and Nohelty gives the gophers a little cusion with a two out single up the middle, 10-8.

Now AJ delivers a two out single to make it 11-8, would be nice not to have to use Maytas in the ninth but we would need about 3 more to make that happen.

After getting rocked 24-8 by Georgia, Ohio State comes back and beats Marist today 6-4. Indiana also lost and gets Vandy.

Gophers win 11-8 to stay alive. they move on to to play tomorrow.

Gophers WIN 11-8!!!!!

Survive and advance is the name of the game. Now we get to sit and rest until tomarrow and get most likely Baylor again with Chauncy on the mound.
