Mason, a freshman, suffered a knee strain in practice last week but is closer to being ready to play in the Nov. 14 season opener against Louisville in Puerto Rico.
"(Mason) is playing with a brace right now," Pitino said. "He probably practiced 50 percent yesterday. He kind of bumped it towards the end, and we told him to get out and get some treatment."
Walker was competing with fellow senior Elliott Eliason for the starting center spot. Freshman Bakary Konate is now getting reps at the backup position.
"Mo will do non-contact stuff today a little bit," Pitino said. "My biggest thing is I'm not so much worried about tomorrow."
