I picked up a copy of the Daily today, and they had an article about the new floor in williams arena.

(Second Part of the Acticle) http://www.mndaily.com/2009/05/26/wrestling-team-boasts-top-recruiting-class

Here's the interesting part:

"Dale said the new floor will be much brighter than the current floor and will don different logos as well. Goldy will be removed from center court to be replaced by a large Minnesota “M.”

The border will remain maroon and gold, but the current text will be inverted on the new court. The floor will say “Golden Gophers” under the hoops and “Minnesota” on the sidelines. One of the Big Ten logos will be replaced with a Williams Arena stamp as well."

I thought the video that was posted the other day claimed that the new floor would look the same as the old one? Who are we to believe? Does anyone know what the actual design will be?

I have to say that I like the M in the center, but I would prefer the "MINNESOTA"s on the ends of the court and "GOLDEN GOPHERS" on the sides, like they are now because I think they fit better.

GO GOPHERS!

Assuming that this report is the correct one, I can't say I'm sad about them making the floor brighter. I always thought it was too dark. I have to agree with you about the Minnesota looking better on the sidelines. Overall, I think the floor will look better and it will obviously be in better shape.

I'm kinda surprised no one in the media has asked Maturi about it. It shouldn't be top-secret and he'd the man to now. Not sure why Myron, Sid, Fuller, and the rest are just speculating when someone could just simply ask.

I hope they are keeping those red CUB Foods stickers in the corners. Those are sweet!

Hey. The PR guys could come up with a whole lot worse ads than those Cub Food stickers. How about a Viagra ad like they have on MLB. Big Pharma. has lots of money. Don't expect less advertising.

It would make sense to have a M.

I am fine with Goldy, but in terms of the branding the U is using in the stadium it makes sense.

Goldy isn't on the front of very many hats or shirts in this state, but the M is.

Court will have a block M 20 feet wide by 15 feet tall

Court will be maroon and gold but otherwise completely different.

"Williams Arena" with "The Barn" beneath it in smaller text where the two current Big Ten logos are now.

Then the bench side has MINNESOTA, opposite side is all maroon with the Big Ten Logo at center court, and the end zones both have "Golden Gophers."

It will have a very clean, new look. It is first grade maple so will be a very bright floor unlike the yellow amber that is being replaced.

****

This is all from a great source.
