'14 ACC-BIG 10 Challenge Match-Ups

According to SI.com Duke at Wisconsin, Syracuse will visit Michigan, Ohio State at Louisville, Indiana hosts Pittburgh and North Carolina hosts Iowa, sources confirmed to SI.com. "Maryland, which left the ACC at the end of this past season to join the Big Ten, will face longtime rival Virginia to College Park." I assume the "to" should actually be *at*

At this point I'm hoping we get Notre Dame. That seems to be the best case scenario for us.

Figured they would make UVa at Maryland happen. Iowa @ UNC? Ouch. Good luck with that Iowee.

I would've loved to have seen the Gophers get the @UNC game. Honestly I think we'll finish ahead of Iowa next year and should've been "seeded" in front of them for the challenge.

They wouldn't dare give us FSU *again* would they?

So with the matchups that are already out that leaves possibilities for us of Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Out of those options I think my top choices would be NC State and Notre Dame.

Go Gophers!!

spend the weekend in Atlanta, hit Clemson for the Monday night game, Gophers at Wake on Tuesday and Iowa at North Carolina on Wednesday. Wouldn't be a bad week

I'm alright with this, it's a road game that we should win, Wake has a new coach in Danny Manning, they'll have some buzz around their program and unlike the past couple years were playing an origional ACC team.

Release from the U:

Gophers to Visit Wake Forest in 2014 ACC/B1G Challenge

The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team will travel to face Wake Forest as part of the 2014 ACC/Big Ten Challenge Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods, as the full slate of games was announced today by the conferences. The Golden Gophers and the Demon Deacons will square off on Tuesday, December 2 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Game time and television broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams in a series that dates back 60 years, with a 3-3 split of the prior matchups. Most recently, the Gophers topped the Deacons, 73-58, in the opening round of the 2006 National Invitation Tournament at Williams Arena.

Prior to that, Wake Forest defeated Minnesota, 85-79, at home in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in 2001. That was the only prior time the teams have met in the annual event. In overall series history, each team has gone 2-0 on its home court, while they split in consecutive years at the 1954 and 1955 Dixie Classic in Raleigh, N.C.

The Gophers are 7-8 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge after posting victories in their past three matchups. The ACC leads the series 10-3-2 after the 2012 and 2013 events ended in a 6-6 tie. This year’s challenge, newly expanded to 14 games featuring every conference school, will feature Big Ten newcomers Maryland and Rutgers along with new ACC member Louisville.

Wake Forest will host the Maroon and Gold in their first season under new head coach Danny Manning. The Demon Deacons return four starters and nine letterwinners from their 2013-14 squad.

Coming off the 2014 NIT championship and a school-record 25 wins, the Gophers will return four starters and eight letterwinners mixed with six newcomers as they take the court for the second year under head coach Richard Pitino.

ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 14 games of the three-day event matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioners Cup. All 14 games will also be available via WatchESPN.

Go Gophers!!

the Battle for Atlantis is loaded this year too-- maybe hit that first, stop in ACC country on the way home. I gotta get on this "winning the lottery" thing so this can all happen.

Hmm, if you want to see Minnesota in a pre-season tournament, you may want to hit up the Preseason NIT and not the Battle for Atlantis, unless you just want to go on the fun water slides there.

Go Gophers!!

Have we ever had a good match up in this thing? We should boycott it until they give us an interesting match up. Not even a Duke/UNC/Louisville/Syracuse game, just a ND/Pitt type game.

ESPNU here we come

It's fairly apparent which games will get relegated to third-string status (ESPNU) on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gophers/Wake Forest and probably NC State/Purdue on Tuesday

Georgia Tech/Northwestern and Virginia Tech/Penn State on Wednesday

This makes me even more thankful for the Louisville game. Hopefully we take care of business in the NIT so we get some good match ups in that tournament.

Once you get past the top four that you mentioned, I'm pretty indifferent. Who makes up your next tier? Notre Dame/Pitt Others?

Excellent point.

I hope Pitino isn't banking the Gophers' entire nonconference resume on Louisville/Wake Forest/perhaps (2 of) Georgia-Gonzaga-Saint Johns. We need more "meat" to our non-league schedule than that.
