Gophers Volleyball Hosts First and Second Round of NCAA Tournament

The University of Minnesota volleyball team has been selected to host the NCAA First and Second Rounds, Dec. 6-7 at the Sports Pavilion, announced tonight by the NCAA.

Placed in the Lexington regional, No. 10 seed Minnesota (27-6) will face Radford (25-9) on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Prior to the Gopher/Highlander match will be Iowa State and Colorado, at 4:30 p.m.

The winners of the first round matches will face each other on Dec. 7, 7 p.m., also at the Sports Pavilion. This marks the fifth time in six years the Gophers will host the first and second rounds. The contest marks second time all-time the Gophers will face the Highlanders and the first since 2001.

Gophers hold off Colorado's comeback attempt tonight winning 3-2 (25-20, 25-18, 17-25, 21-25, 15-9).

5th straight trip to the Sweet 16 where they will play #7 Stanford in Lexington, KY on Friday and should be available on ESPN3. #2 Penn State will be there and the winner of #15 Kentucky/Michigan State tomorrow.

Purdue upset #4 and previously undefeated (35-0) Missouri in Columbia 3-1. 6 Big Ten teams in the Sweet 16, if Michigan State wins tomorrow it will be 7. Only one to lose so far is Michigan in first round last night vs. LSU.
 

Sweet 16 schedule - all games Friday, December 13 and on ESPN3. Elite 8 games should be on ESPNU Saturday.

#3 Washington v. #14 Kansas - 7:00
#6 USC v. BYU - 9:00

Lincoln Regional
#1 Texas v. American - 5:00
#8 Nebraska v. #9 San Diego - 7:00

Champaign Regional
#12 Wisconsin v. Florida State - 4:00
#13 Illinois v. Purdue - 6:00
 

Texas got upset by Wisconsin, so will be in the championship versus Penn State
