There was a thread on the football board asking for less "All Things" threads so I am posting this new information in a separate thread, in addition to its original post in the All Things 2013 Recruiting Thread:

@goodmanespn: Louisville transfer Zach Price told ESPN he has visited Dayton and Purdue -- and plans to visit Minnesota and Missouri.

Go Gophers!!

Courier Journal: Zach Price leaving University of Louisville basketball team

“We’re a deep basketball team, and we respect anybody’s decision that wants to play a lot,” Pitino said. “Certainly he didn’t play a whole lot for us and wasn’t a major factor in what we do, and he felt like he could go somewhere else and be a major factor. So we respect his decision and hope he has great success when he moves on.”

Ugh, why give into the lazy posters. I don't have a problem with this if it's a one time thing, but please let's not go back to the sloppiness of everyone starting a new thread when they want to make a one sentence comment on a player.

Also, I'd take this guy. Sounds like he'd be able to play 2 more years if he redshirted his transfer year? We aren't really recruiting any centers in 2014 so it may be good to have an extra big man that would be a senior the year after we lose EE and Mo. He is obviously a player that would fit what Pitino wants to do since he was recruited by the elder Pitino.

Also- if the elder Pitino thought the kid couldn't play- then there's no way Pitino the younger would be recruiting him.

Agree. A big who fits the Pitino style would be a good get.

Pitino's comments when Price was rumored to be leaving and after it was confirmed weren't all that.. respectful? But, doesn't mean he can't improve and help the Gophers.

"Certainly he didn’t play a whole lot for us and wasn’t a major factor in what we do" - Rick Pitino on Price leaving Louisville

I like it! He privately tells son Richard that the kid can really play- then he publicly tells other coaches that the kid isn't that good. :) This could work!

I also support the establishment of a new thread for young Mr. Price. I think he is an interesting candidate. Ranked in the top 60 when he was a freshman. If we were recruiting him at that point, he is ranked just below where Reid Travis is today. If we consider where Louisville's talent level has been for the last few years, it should not be an embarrassment for an underclassman that has not had significant playing time. I am interested to see how his recruiting develops.

Im not against it either, but we do need some frontcourt help this year. It's too bad Price would have to sit out a year. I have high hopes for Buggs, but I would feel alot better if we had a guy like Rakeem, who could contribute this year. I really thought either Oto or Mav would transfer after the moves Pitino made. If we had two open schollys this would be a pretty good move.

The one who lost the most minutes left. Mav who has improved in small increments each year, may well receive about the same time. Oto on paper, is in the best position to play since he arrived on campus. I thought they would both be back. I was pretty sure Joe was going to leave, but I wish I had never posted it.

I disagree regarding Oto. If King is eligible to play this year, he is going to see more minutes than Oto. King is essentially a better version of Oto. At least Mav can hit an open jumper, but as a primary ball handler off the bench, he doesnt fill the roll.

Still a long way to November. We have one scholarship open right now, but who's to say there won't be any more transfers? Were Mav and Oto both at practice last week? Everybody else? (besides Mathieu, who still has summer school to complete)

Offering Price also could mean Pitino and staff are starting to like King and Buggs at the 4 now that they've seen them practice some, and wouldn't be devastated if they didn't get Buckles, and/or maybe they're starting to question whether Buckles will be able to do what he needs to do to get on campus and don't want to hold that scholarship open until August waiting to see.

I think our staff knows what they're doing though.

Colton Iverson "cough", Justin Cobbs "cough", Royce White "cough". I'm not saying, I'm just saying. Any Gopher fan should know that the transfer of players who are unhappy in their current situation can pay off for another school.

I know nothing about this guy, but big men don't grown on trees. If he's offered, I'll put my trust in Pitino and his staff.

I see what ur saying, but Price is far from a done deal. And with Coach Pitino's tweets about Buckles, it seems like he was high on buckles as well. With Pitinos emphasis on recruiting, im sure he'll make the right decision whether Price is better than any recruits we can get next year.

I think those days are long gone.

I am becoming a Rick Pitino fan. Any jump start he can give Rich makes me smile. 6'10", 240#, played on a National Championship team, huge up side. I like it.

Pitino needs one of the Big 3. If he doesn't sign one many Gopher fans will become frustrated with him....he can't miss out on the best class MN will have in years.

If he got a commit from a top 100 recruit before the decisions of the Big 3 that might appease Gopher fans as they await those decisions. I agree with you, but I think timing of commits will play a factor in Gophers' fans perception if we are to lose out on all 3 guys.

All Pitino has to do to harness one of the big three is throw a hammerlock on him and keep it on him until he willingly commits. It's called aggressive recruiting. Then we can say that Pitino can convince anyone to come here.

The 2014 class will be strong whether we get any of the big three or not. I will be surprised but not hurt if we miss all three. We will have our best class in a long time (maybe ever). They will recruit for the right fits for the system. I look forward to the new system. The slow down teams will struggle with it when Rich has his guys. The process has begun and he had some in place.

Usually I would agree with Parski1 bashing. However, he has a point. Common fans will think he did a bad job if he doesn't land at least one

Yes, common fans will want one of the big three and would be slightly upset if he doesn't land one for a period of time. But if Pitino lands Whitehead, Cohen, Perkins, and another top 50 recruit - a highly rated recruiting class - and makes the elite 8, I sure hope common fans are smart enough to know that's good with or without Tyus Jones.

So I think for a brief time people may be upset at not landing any of them, but I'd be just fine with the class I listed above and winning games. Ill repeat it again, just win baby win. I don't and most don't care too much about where your recruits are from, just so we win games.

Would be awesome to sign Rashad, Reid, and/or Tyus, but am I going to demand Pitino be fired if he doesn't? Absolutely not. It all depends who else he gets and how many games they win.

Tubby landed Royce White, the top in state recruit, how many wins did he help produce? You can't base a coach simply on the rating of his recruiting class. If we did, Kill would have been fired after year one and Brewster would have a lifetime contract.

Well stated. I've never understood the provincialism that seems to worry people so much. If we lose out on the Big Three but bring in three other four star recruits, I really don't care. An 18 year old shouldn't feel obligated to play here just because he grew up here. That doesn't (by definition) reflect poorly on the coach if they decide to attend college somewhere else, for whatever reason.

I just want players.

Very true.

I'd much rather have three 4 star recruits that played for 3 or 4 years than a one or two 5 stars that only played one year.

But, but, but if we don't land one of the B3G, Pitino is a lousy recruiter and should be fired immediately. (According to some of our expert commentors.)

All of that before even one game has been played, and before the roster is totally filled for next year.

Former Louisville big man Zach Price was viewed as a clear Top 100 player coming out of high school. A four-star prospect, he didn't play much for the Cardinals in his first two seasons. He decided to transfer and it looks like he's choosing between five schools: Dayton, Purdue, Minnesota, Butler, and Missouri.

STrib: Rumors that the Gophers are going after Zach Price aren't true

It’s unknown what exactly the Gophers are doing with that last available scholarship for the 2013-14 season -- whether Rakeem Buckles will ever get here, whether they’re saving it or whether they’re going after someone else.

One recruit they don’t have their eyes on, however, is Louisville transfer Zach Price. It’s been reported several places that Price – who after reopening his recruitment has made visits to Purdue and Dayton and has Mizzou scheduled – had plans to visit Minnesota. With new Gophers’ coach Richard Pitino’s ties to Louisville, there is some sense to be made.

Not the case, a source tells me – the Gophers simply aren’t interested. The other notable thing with Price is that the rising junior wouldn’t be eligible right away. My thinking is that if the Gophers choose to expend that last remaining roster spot, they will do so with a recruit that could help contribute right away (since it’s almost July and all, and the 2014 class is, well, pretty darn good).
