I just saw this article breaking down where NBA draft picks grew up. It is pretty interesting and follows a bit the population of the state. Some suprises are Illinois with 41 and Florida with just 22 (shows popularity of football here). Florida has 19 million people and Illinois almost 13. Maryland with 6 million people and 32 draft picks. Minnesota with 5.5 million and 11. Iowa with 3 million and 8. Indiana with 6.5 million and 22.

Top 10 talent and top 50 talent hardly stays "home" anymore so these findings would have been more relevant 20 years ago when recruits weren't know on a national basis and all over espn. But one could see that having just 1 division 1 basketball school while producing a draft pick 11 of 15 years would be a decent ratio for a school if that were still the case.

With the talent in 2014 and beyond expect MN draftee numbers to rise.

No shock. Chicago is a huge basketball city as is Baltimore. Indiana is hoops obsessed too. Also do you have a link? What is the time frame?

is this accurate? Al Jefferson is from Minnesota but Kris Humphries is not?

I think its interesting to note the state of Kentucky has only produced 7 NBA players. That tells you that as successful as Kentucky and Louisville has been that they get the majority of their recruits from out of state.
