@prepxtra: Minnesota offered Dre Mathieu (@DRIIIIIZZZZZYYY) today. The ex-Central HS star will visit there 5/3

Go Gophers!!

@driiiiizzzzzyyy: Memphis and Minnesota head coaches be here tomorrow #blessed

Go Gophers!!

Rivals shows visits to Mississippi on 4/25, Memphis on 4/27 and the Gophers on 5/3. Also lists offers by lots of other schools (UCLA stands out). Who knows how accurate, but seems like a legit player. Will be fun to learn more about him...

@gopherhole: Dre Mathieu reportedly has offers from #Gophers, Memphis, UCLA, Mississippi, Washington State

Go Gophers!!

He related to former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu at all?

It's great to have a coaching staff that can identify what our roster needs - a point gaurd! If Pitino can bring in a pretty good point for next year and get the Hollins to the 2 and 3 spots, that would be fantastic.

Can we get someone else please, if only for the ease of player identification?

I love that we are not doing the Cory Joseph thing- waiting for one guy and then getting nothing. We'd all love to have Tyus, hope he comes to Minny, but the program moves forward with or without and Pitino, with the offers to Mathieu and Johnson is making sure we are covered. Perfect.

Our last staff identified and signed a true scorer and a PF, and left us with 2 tenders.

Our last staff didn't believe in recruiting ball handlers and then complained there players couldn't handle the ball despite working on that in practice. Where is the rule you can't play two point guards types at once. Like if Tyus comes here this guy wouldn't get minutes? Nothing wrong with three guys who can handle on the floor at once. Finally a coach that knows it's all about guards. He may even recruit shooters! heaven forbid!

Shooters??? Shooters plural??? I thought the rules were we could only have one shooter on a team at a time? Is this a rule change?

Mav has always been a 3 point shooting specialist. The question is why he was ever asked to handle the ball

I actually LIKE the idea of Mav coming in off the bench to shoot threes. He's got a great shot that he obviously has worked hard on during his time at Minnesota.

I imagine taking away ball handling duties will do wonders for his confidence too. I don't think he liked sucking at it anymore than we liked watching him suck at it.

+1

I can see advantages to having the visit on May 3. Snow should be gone by then, warmer temperatures (hopefully) will be here. Also, we could be his final visit. Sometimes what you see last is what sticks with you at decision time.
