Minnesota 76 #15 Ohio State 73
Melvin Newbern's lay-up with 8 seconds left puts Gophers up 74-73. With 3 seconds left, a Buckeye basket is waved off and technicals are assessed, with Willie Burton hitting the free throws. The scorer was a senior guard who for years held the Ohio career high school scoring record. He is currently the #7 career scorer in OSU history. Later during this season, his career will end with a serious neck injury when fouled by Iowa bruiser Ed Horton. Can you name him?
Bonus Question- Minnesota gets 10 points from a senior guard from Dayton, Ohio. He persevered through Clem's first tough years and must have enjoyed this Sweet 16 run immensely. He was not always a starter but was an outstanding 3-point shooter, often being inserted for "instant offense". Can you name him?
