KU had 3 FGs and 13 pts in first half vs. 0-8 TCU

Wow, that has to be one of the most shocking halves of cbb this season. I bet KU comes back and wins by double digits.

@johnclayiv: Alabama lost at Auburn 49-37 tonight. That's the 6th time this season an SEC team has failed to score 40 points.

Go Gophers!!

First IMHO, a lot of those teams are worse than the Gophers. Secondly, all of their coaches are not better than Tubby. #5 Kansas lost to TCU, #16 Creighton lost to Indiana St., #17 Cinci lost to Providence. I would also suggest that recruiting is a problem for our Gophers and will rear it's head again, as soon as most if not all of the in state 2014 recruits decide, that their own state university just doesn't have the quality facilities, coaching and finicky fan base to devote their college playing days in Minnesota. I hope that I am incorrect in my observations.

No, they'll decide that head coaches elsewhere can lead them to conference championships and tournament success. It's the coaching.

Monson's .393 conference win % was far more forgivable.

Hahaha Tubby built a program with no facilities and lack of talent to a top 25 team. Who are you going to bring in if you fire him? You don't think every coach on the planet would see if Tubby Smith gets fired for going to the NCAA tournament three times in six years how fast would I get fired?

He is simply not that good of a coach. This guy was hired to win tournament games and earn significant raises. One of the great underachievers in Minnesota sports history.

Your point is well taken! Maybe, the U should re-evaluate (as some have suggested) if Tubby needs an offensive minded assistant coach, but that would put the U and Tubby at odds, or Tubby realizes the offense needs an outside specialist to come in and help whip it into shape. The latter is much more desirable of course.

You didn't answer my question who in their right mind would take this job?

You dont believe that the talent level is just as big of an issue? Now I will agree that is 100% on him as well, but I see talent as a bigger issue there...

Yeah Shaka Smart will be dying to come here because Norwood Teague! Or Brad Stevens because there certainly aren't any better jobs out there that would take him![/SARCASM]

Why?

We get it you think the Gophers lack talent you post it on every thread.

If you throw out Monson's first two years, which is fair considering the sanctions, he and Tubby have nearly identical conference win %'s.

It is a somewhat legitimate concern. I'm generally happy with Tubby's fall recruiting, I think he recruits good, under the radar players, like Austin and Andre Hollins, but sometimes I do wish he might try going after some top 50 type players from out of state. He seems to be doing that a bit for the 2014 class with offers to Dominique Collier and Josh Perkins. Other Big Ten teams have been getting some top 25, 5-star talent though. Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, Indiana, and Michigan all have at least one 5-star player on their roster, Illinois has had one or two in the past few years as well. Indiana and Michigan have at least two (and Trey Burke is not one of them), and Michigan State has three. Our better players are primarily 3 and 4 star guys, which is okay, we just don't have much in the way of really high-end talent. Hopefully we can get some for 2014 with Vaughn and maybe Jones and Travis.

Can we discount Tubby's last two years then because of the loss of something like 7 or 8 players to injury or transfer over those years?

do you? or is it the coach? I am totally in the camp of Tubs being responsible for not having good enough players, I just think his actual coaching is not as big an issue as the talent. He coached fine against Nebraska, a inferior team, so is it coaching or talent? No trying to argue and everyone should be able to have an opinion, what is yours?

Never said you couldn't have an opinion its just that I've seen you post something about talent on every thread. Maybe it is talent maybe it is coaching time will tell, but firing Tubby this year is just plain stupid to me.

I never said I would fire him. I just think he has a bunch of good, not great, players. I just think the Gophs really miss a guy who can get his own shot and take over a game. I thought Andre might have been that guy, but he has not shown it in the B10 season so far. Maybe he still becomes that guy, but as of now it seems the Gophs are just missing that.

I think that's part of the frustration. He has shown that he can be the guy, but as the Big10 season has gone on, he seems to have taken a pretty significant step back. Dre is legit. He's a player, he has the ability to take over a game. It's happened in the past, it started at the end of last year. A lot of people thought he'd go from potential star to superstar and it just hasn't happened, which is what frustrates a lot of Gopher fans.

Seth Davis says in his 20+ years he can't recall a larger gap in RPI in an upset.

TCU was 229, KU was 10. This is akin to Penn State (197) beating Indiana (6).

I am really upset about this. Bill Self has to go. This is Kansas basketball we are talking about. While we are at it Billy Donavan has to go. His Florida team just lost to Arkansas. What is this basketball world coming to. You know something that Mike guy from Duke; fire him too. He lost 90 to 63 to Miami. One silly injury and that happens. Man this is Duke. Why don't we have some depth on the bench?

While we are at it Brad Frost needs to go too. So what; they are 28 and 0 but they are going to lose a game sooner or later and I just can't stand it. By the way Brad is the coach of our women's hockey team for those of us not in the know. Cool name for a hockey coach, huh!

Good, logical response. I love it.
