What are the chances that Trevor is reclassified as a soph after a medical RS?

There was some initial banter that Trevor and the U would at least apply for a medical RS for Trevor's year at Marquette. I guess they can't formally apply until he gets to campus and the chances are always slim, but worth a shot.

Trevor played in 11 of his teams final 12 games, averaging about 9mpg in that span.

I can't believe they would ever grant the medical RS playing eleven games at the end of the season, especially. The idea must have been talked about when he was at Marquette, and he decided no. This would be a shock if it were granted.

Can't fathom any scenario where the NCAA would grant this waiver, nor should they IMO in this case. He played in the NCAA Tournament; I don't see how they could grant a medical redshirt to a kid that got to play in the NCAA's for the year in question.

I don't see it happening for Mbawke when you consider this case (unless several of those nine games were postseason games that Mbawke played in.

even as the ncaa has softened in its policies over the years, there is essentially no chance that trevor's freshman year at marquette will be categorized as a redshirt season...

first of all, he played in 11 of 35 games that season (31.4% of his team's contests), which, in and of itself, is beyond the threshold required to possibly qualify for a redshirt...

secondly, and more importantly...(and here is where the logic comes in)...by allowing trevor to claim a redshirt for the season in question, this ncaa decision would send a message to every student-athlete in the country...in every sport...that if you are taking a redshirt in any given season, you can simply wait until the final 20%....or 25%...or 29%...of the season...and then you can play all you (and/or your coach) want....and you will still have 4 years of elegibility remaining...

actually, the ncaa is considering, though not very seriously right now, the possibility of adjusting their policy of '5 years to play 4 seasons'...they are considering '5 years to play 5 seasons'...and doing away with the concept of the 'redshirt' entirely...

Correct - 30% is the limit. Over that = no medical redshirt possibility.

It's actually in the rules that all playing time has to have occurred during the team's first half of the season.
