Amanda Kessel tallied 10 points (6g-4a) last weekend in a sweep of North Dakota.

The WCHA announced Wednesday afternoon that University of Minnesota women’s hockey player Amanda Kessel was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week. The junior from Madison, Wis. had a career weekend as she tallied 10 points (6g-4a) in a sweep of rival North Dakota.

Kessel, who leads the nation in scoring with 64 points (31g-33a), started the weekend off by tying her career-high for points in a single game with six. The junior netted four goals in the game to record her third hat trick of the season and eighth of her career. She also tacked on two assists in the Gophers’ 6-3 win.

On Saturday, she was held pointless for the first two periods but regained her offensive presence in the third by notching two goals and two assists. Both of her goals came in the final minute of play to seal the Maroon & Gold’s 6-3 victory.

Kessel enters this weekend just six points shy of tallying 200 career points. When she reaches the rare 200-point mark, she will be only the 24th player to do so since the NCAA began tracking stats during the 2000-01 season. She will also be only the ninth player to reach the mark during her junior campaign.

This accolade is Kessel’s third this season (Oct. 3 and Nov. 7) and seventh of her career. She shares Offensive Player of the Week honors with Minnesota Duluth’s Jamie Kenyon, who recorded four goals on the weekend.

Other WCHA honorees are Bemidji State’s Erika Wheelhouse for Defensive Player of the Week and Wisconsin’s Courtney Burke as Rookie of the Week.

Kessel and the Gophers take their 30-game winning streak to Mankato, Minn. this weekend to face Minnesota State on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. A combination of two wins or ties would put the Maroon & Gold in a tie for the NCAA unbeaten streak, which is held by Wisconsin at 32.
