In last week's installment of The Amazing Acting Career of. . ., I presented Sarah Holcomb. This week, I present Deena Martin who is the '90s equivalent of Holcomb, albeit with two films that have maintained a cult status rather than the legendary status Holcomb's movies enjoyed.

Martin first came to attention in Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused, playing the role of Shavonne Wright, who was the girlfriend of Don (the best friend of Pink). For those who watched the movie, Martin got a lot of screen time throughout the movie as Don's sexy blonde girlfriend, as she was also the best friend of Jodi (Mitch's older sister). She was part of one of my favorite scenes of the movie, towards the end where a few of the crew gather on the football field to smoke a joint at the 50 yard line.

Although Martin had a smaller role in Swingers, it was a more memorable role as she played the cocktail waitress in Vegas that Trent (played by Vince Vaughn) squired and was intimate with, before Mike had to check his messages to see if his ex-girlfriend had called.

These two movies are among my favorites of all-time, and certainly were among my favorite of that time period. Many actors went on from these two low-budget cult classics to great success (Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey, Adam Goldberg), but Martin's career is pretty much encapsulated by those two movies. Her imdb page credits her with two other movies (1999's Random Act of Violence and 2008's Leaf, which is actually a movie about Ryan Leaf) and a one episode appearance on Law & Order. Her acting history lists a long gap between 1999 and 2008, without any explanation given or found.

I am almost certain that wasn't Deena.. The blonde in that scene is the more well known, Joey Lauren Adams. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

Great movie no matter who was in that scene. Must watch at the end of every school year.

I believe both of them are there, if memory serves me well. There was Slater, Wooderson, Don, Pink, and Joey Lauren Adams and Martin (girlfriends to Pink and Don). When they head to Houston to get Aerosmith tickets, it's just Wooderson, Pink, Slater, and Joey Lauren Adam's character (once again, going off of memory here).

Who could forget Matthew McConaughey's role in that one?!!? He had a great quote in that one, I'm sure I'll butcher.... Something to the effect of, "the great thing about HS girls is, the older I get, they stay the same age."

Great show, reminded me of every Friday afternoon/night all throughout HS.

That sounds right.

What is most disturbing to me is finding out that there was a movie made about Ryan Leaf.

Looks like the Leaf movie may be coming to a theatre near you soon:
