Holiday tournaments

Can anyone tell me the reason for playing these holiday tournaments outside of the US in small arenas with small crowds? I know that teams can play more games when they're in these tournaments. It's more of a question why they aren't played in the US where you can get larger crowds. Do places like Atlantis, Cancun, and Maui pay big money to host these tournaments?

I've never understood this.
