Sadly there will be a lack of students there, the home opener vs. Michigan State for hockey and the B.o.b homecoming concert are both at the same time.

The University of Minnesota men’s and women's basketball programs will officially begin the season by hosting “Gopher All-Star Friday Night” on Oct. 12 at Williams Arena. The event, formally known as “Midnight Madness,” “Tubby’s Tip-off” or "Hoopla" will begin at 7:00 p.m. The entire night’s schedule is below. The Williams Arena doors will open at 7:00 p.m. in preparation for the evening’s first event.
“Gopher All-Star Friday Night” will have the look of NBA All-Star weekend and feature a two-ball shooting competition, a three-point shooting competition, a dunk contest and a scrimmage.
Also included in “Gopher All-Star Friday Night” will be prize drawings throughout the evening. The main prize includes a trip for two to the Battle 4 Atlantis, held at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The Minnesota men open the Battle 4 Atlantis on Thanksgiving Day against Duke.
The Gopher men open the 2012-13 schedule on Friday, Nov. 9 against American University at Williams Arena. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m. Minnesota will also host a pair of exhibition games, Nov. 1 vs. Minnesota State, Mankato and Nov. 5 vs. Southwest Baptist. Both games are set to tip at 7:00 p.m.
