Background) The elite 24 is a summer hs basketball event in which 24 of the top hs players in the nation get selected to go to Venice Beach, CA and compete in the weekend event which includes a dunk contest, a game, etc... The players are split up into 2 teams of 12 coached by 2 NBA players. Illinois players are not allowed to compete.
Rosters) Team 1: Jabari Bird, Tyler Ennis, Keith Frazier, Conner Frankamp, Aaron Gordon, Brannen Greene, TYUS JONES, Emmanuel Mudiay, Austin Nichols, Sindarius Thornwell, Nigel Williams-Goss, and Justise Winslow.

Team 2: Nate Britt, Isaac Hamilton, the Harrison bros, Kuran Iverson, Rondae Jefferson, Jermaine Lawrence, Marcus Lee, Julius Randle, Wayne Selden, RASHAD VAUGHN, and Andrew Wiggins.

Minnesotans Tyus Jones and Rashad Vaughn got selected to this game. A high honor. Rashad replaced Aquille Carr in the game because Aquille had been arrested for assault.

Coverage- The game airs live on ESPNU at 6 p.m. CT Saturday, Aug. 25, while the Under Armour Slam Dunk Contest will air Friday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. CT on ESPNU.

Lastly- Timberwolf Derrick Williams is an assistant coach in the Elite 24 for one of the teams. Enjoy the weekend everybody!
*Teams have been tweaked

This is an awesome deal for both kids, both have worked extremely hard to get there and really deserve that honor. It is also a pretty good thing for the Gophers too.

This gives Tyus and Rashad some time to hang out together and maybe plant the seed in Tyus' head about wanting to play with Vaughn (and Travis and Washington) at Minnesota. Also helping that Vaughn took an unofficial visit immediatley prior to leaving for the elite 24.

The more chemistry they can create, the better! It should be fun to watch this weekend for sure!

Out of curiosity, why aren't Illinois preps invited/involved with this tournament?

After watching the first 5 minutes ... it's useless to judge anything.

Announcers showing a lot of love to Vaughn. Mentioning Minnesota as an offer in the same breath as UNC, Duke and Kentucky. Added that Rodney is his cousin (I didn't know that?) and that it'll help "Gophers' coach Tubby Smith put the fences up" and keep Vaughn in Minnesota.

Missed the first 5 minutes, but haven't heard anything about Tyus.

And as I type that Tyus Jones throws a nice alley oop.

Vaughn had a big game, but most of his baskets were on easy run outs. He did make a nice contested 3 in the second half. Tyus was pretty quiet, made some good passes but not what I would expect out of the #1 PG - it's safe to say he's no Brandon Jennings. Aaron Gordon and Julius Randle were the stars of the game, but not every top player was there because let's face it, the Elite 24 isn't the McD's AA game or even the Jordan Brand Classic.

Ya, this was your typical all star game. Tyus seemed to be the most mellow kid on the court. Who was the white boy tossing up three's from across the atlantic and bricking every one?

Tyus isn't an All Star game player. His game isn't based on sheer athleticism and highlights but actually playing the PG position exquisitely. Chris Paul never does anything in the All Star game either, nor does Steve Nash.

Actually, Paul is averaging a double double for his all star game career. Nash is closer to what you describe.

Yea in a game where they usually score about 170 and he's doing nothing but throwing oops and jacking up 3's. Below the rim guys aren't much fun in All Star games
