What about Kevin Thomas (signed with Texas ended up in JC) Minnesota offer...

Gophers should be looking at JUCOs for next year. I was pretty high on Kevin Thomas as a prep - plenty of skill & lots of upside. His rebounding in FL was strong this past year, which is an area he needed to focus on/improve... he will have a ton of interest from HM schools. If Minnesota brought him in, you'd have reason to give Tubby a nice pat on the back. Thumbs up on this kid.

With him planning to be at Palm Beach State again this season I'll try to make it out to a game or two.

Aug 24, 2011 Fails to Qualify

"The bad news just keeps coming for the Texas Longhorns basketball team. Canadian Kevin Thomas, a 6-7 wing from the same AAU program that produced Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson, and Myck Kabongo, failed to qualify academically and will attend a junior college this season, according to a Longhorn official Wednesday."

From Palm Beach game game-summaries link below "Freshman Kevin Thomas had a monster game on the glass as he collected 17 rebounds."

March 16, 2011 -- "Thomas isn’t in the Rivals top 150. He may need time to develop."

"Thomas is a bit different, however. His route didn’t take him through Findlay Prep, a national prep power described by its website as “a program for exceptional student basketball athletes to receive a top-notch educational experience.”

Then again, he isn’t as highly ranked as the others. Joseph was No. 8 last year, according to Rivals.com. Thompson was No. 17. Kabongo is 24 this year. Thomas isn’t in the Rivals top 150. He may need time to develop.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the Canadians want to stick together, said Michael Peck, who coached the three Findlay Prepsters"

Texas scores in Canada again (March 10, 2011)

"They recruited him the hardest,” he said. “The head coach was up to see him. Two and New Mexico. But according to Russell, the Longhorns outworked the competitions.

“They recruited him the hardest,” he said. “The head coach was up to see him. Two of the assistants went to see him. He had a great visit and he met with Todd Wright the strength and conditioning guy. His family went and they were very impressed with the program.”

Thomas, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound power forward, also had AAU teammates and current Texas signee Myck Kabongo tugging at him to head to Austin (Tex.).

“Myck has been recruiting Kevin big time since he signed and was trying to get him to come with him,” Russell said.

Would be a really good addition to the Gophers for the 2013 season. Hope the staff can sell him on replacing Trevor/Rodney at that position as that should be really attractive to a JUCO with all the minutes (and potential production) that will be available.
