Todd Oakes, the Gophers pitching coach was recently diagnosed with Acute Leukemia. He has been writing an almost daily journal on the above Caring Bridge page chronicling his fight. For those of you who have not had the privilege of meeting TO take some time to read his journal and guest book. He is an outstanding pitching coach, but a much better friend, father, husband and person. Please support TO and his family during this difficult time.

Very suprising to see this, he is a great guy. My team played in a state legion tournament and the Jordan team he coached was also in it. He really seemed like a class act and not only a great baseball guy but a great person as well. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Oakes family and heres hoping for the best.

I have heard nothing, but good things about the man. I am sure he could have been head coach at several schools by now, if he wanted.

He is an outstanding coach and guy. I am lucky enough to know him and his family personally. I just can't imagine what is family is going through with this and then TJ just getting drafted, moving away, and starting a new career and his dream.

If you get a chance, read his blogs. His attitude about the whole situation is just incredible.

Nice story about the connection T.O. made with Glen Perkins. For those lucky enough to have had a chance to play for T.O. or get to know him personally the emotion Glen shows is not a surprise at all. T.O. is a special person and I am cheering for his recovery. Sounds like he is slowly getting better and hopefully soon he will be back soon inspiring all of those student-athletes that he meets.
