Gopher pitchers only gave up 2 runs in three games to the last place Wildcats. Big series in the conference next weekend between Purdue and Nebraska. The Huskers went into Columbus and won 2 of 3 from the Buckeyes.

Could be a pivotal weekend in the Big Ten next weekend. The top 4 teams go head to head Friday-Sunday.

#1 Purdue (10-2) @ #3 Nebraska (7-5)
#2 Gophers (6-3) @ #4 Michigan State (5-4)

Oakes vs. Bucciferro should be a real pitcher's duel in the opener on Friday.

Game 1 of Nebraska/Purdue is on the BTN at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Purdue is at Nebraska. Fans here are pumped for the weekend series. The Huskers will have 15000 fans for the 3 game series. I don't think Purdue has ever played in this kind of environment.

Oops, thanks for the correction.

The B1G really needs Purdue to NOT WIN win the B1G Tournament. The Boilers are a shoo-in for a NCAA at-large bid. Probably the only way the conference can get 2 bids, unless Michigan State finishes really strong. Maybe Sparty could sneak into the at-large picture.

Finishing second in the conference, getting the bye in the tournament is huge for whoever wants to win the tourny besides Purdue. The Gophers have a tough road ending the season with 2 away series. They really needed the win Sunday for the sweep against Iowa. they had their chances to put Iowa away.

Agreed huge to get that bye, especially for a team like the Gophers when you have Oakes if he can pitch in essentially a quarterfinal instead of a play-in can make a big difference. The Gophers definitely had their chances Sunday and really should have won, they got a lot of hits but couldn't get the timely hit and left a lot on base.
