I know they're technically called "field goals" but c'mon....don't say "nice goal". This isn't hockey.

Sideline reporter is awful.

It's not Ralph Sampson, Jr.

JAS needs to look into the camera when doing the starting line-ups.

Spence thinks he's still on the team.

I LOVE the BTN!

It's so funny, Art - I was just going to post that I love the BTN. In the past, I have always been home for Thanksgiving in Wisconsin, and have been absolutely irate just trying to watch the Gopher game at any sports bar. For some people, people had no clue if they had the Gameplan, or the BTN, or the game - this is the 1st time I can sit in the comfort of my home and watch the game on my bro's big TV, in HD. Beggers can't be choosers, I'm just happy to have the ability to see games when I'm out of town.

Oh, I agree. I love the BTN for the simple fact that the games are on TV, but I guess the crews are mostly very inexperienced and raw.

What better way to get experience I guess...

I love having the games again. I do agree that Spencer Tollackson isn't Jim Dutcher. Leslie Hill's grammar is better today than it was against Eastern Washington. It's a Mickey Mouse operation, the camera missing Iverson's first free throw was brutal- but having a Big Ten channel is cool. I do miss the old Midwest Sports Channel.

Slow down Spencer!

Spencer is trying to saying a million things in a short period of time. Obviously he needs a little more "coaching" in what and how much to say!

It's great to have the game on tv no matter what!

The color, play-by-play and sideline reporting was really bad. Sorry, almost could not watch. They should be learning while doing high school and small college games, not on the the big ten network.

Spencer needs a lot more coaching, a little more personality wouldn't hurt either. I found myself ignoring the commentators for the most part.

Yes, it was great to see the Gophs playing BB today. The BTN telecast team just looked real amateur/low budget. Spencer comes across a big goof who really wants to be on TV. For me, they were distracting to the game. I turned off the sound and listened to the gophersports.com audio...that's how bad I thought they were.

"The Money Shot"...

The play by play accouncer might want to come up with a new term for hitting a big 3.

Although we got a good laugh, it's not a porn movie.

I was happy to see the game. Spence was raw but ok.

Haha -- Art, I have to agree with you on this one.......these guys were really bad -- they were very unpolished and amateurish and they sounded like they were each calling a game for the first time.

Hopefully, they will get better.......I wish they could get Jim Dutcher to do the game -- he is very good at it!!

Spencer was trying too hard, which is understandable given the situation. It's like he felt he needed to add something every little chance he could. If the Big Ten Network is serious about having him as a color man, he shouldn't do anymore Minnesota games for quite awhile.

Referencing his high school playing days really left me shaking my head. I listened to the 2nd half on the radio and loved Zierden.

Its not Spencer's fault - heck if I were offered that job less than one year out of college I'd have taken it too! Having said that, they both were terrible and I agree with the prvious post about turning off the volume. One favorite of mine from Spencer was something to the effect of "Tubby and his staff have gone all over the world to find players - Joseph is from Canada and then there is Iverson from the Dakotas." Now that's what I call an international team.

I think Spencer has a great upside, when it comes to his color career.

Not alot of umms, you knows, and other filler type stuff.

He needs for someone in the industry to sit down with him and go through his tapes. He will improve.

May ATTF can give him some tips.

Spencer had upside 5 years ago too. If his broadcast career mirrors his playing career, he'll only regress and be really brutal in 4 years.

Spencer is a goof.....

Terrible commentator. How about a little insight? Always got a free pass as a player because he was gregarious. I always thought he and Mark Madsen were the same person.

It's just too bad that one of our own is trying to make an honest living, doing something he loves, isn't it? I see no need for cheap shots, but if it boosts your own ego, hell then, go right ahead. Like it was said previously, The BTN apparently offered him a job as soon as he got back as a color commentator, something that he wanted to do already. What was he supposed to do, say no?

Whatever, I like him doing color more than I did in the starting lineup.

If wanting the job and being one our own is the criteria, then I want to bring back #4. He's probably looking for work and imagine the stories he could tell.

Glad To Know The Broadcasting Pros

Didn't take a break over Thanksgiving weekend. Wonder what the boss thought about most of us our first few days on the job...

Spencer did better than I expected. Given the fact that he has been doing color analysis for all of 3 games (?) and he was broadcasting in front of his hometown crowd for the first time--EXCELLENT JOB SPENCE!

He will get better with more experience and so will Leslie Hill (whom I think brings a lot of personality and knowledge to the sidelines--unlike many of the blond, stick figures that seem so popular these days).

On the otherhand, the play-by-play guy (whom I have to assume was not a rookie) has awful. Maybe BTN will mix up experienced broadcasters with the rookies so that some on the job experience/learning takes place.

Nice to see Gophers covering Gopher games. Look forward to seeing how Spencer and Leslie's careers progress throughout the season.

My biggest issue was the two of them constantly talking over one another....that was soooo annoying. Spence needs to stop calling the Gopher players by their first names.

Yeah, the talking over each other got to me too, it stuck out to me the first time I heard Spencer correct himself 10-15 seconds after he made his point while the other guy was doing his alleged play-by-play.

I agree with Border Gopher as well, Spencer shouldn't be doing any Minnesota games for a while. A little separation from being one of the guys would be good.

Hopefully he can improve by season's end.

Well, at least Leslie Hill was sort of cute in a non

creepy way. She was a little cute in my book at least, plus Pam Borton did not get too much time too suck all of the life out of her. She had a little Brenda Freese fire fun/ fire left in her!

As a player/ observer, it is clear that Brenda was a woman that players wanted to play for and those same players wanted to quit on good old whats her name.

It wasn't great, but I've heard worse. I would hope Spence and this play-by-play guy do not rank high enough to do any conference games. We still got Bremer and Dutcher for a couple non-conference games last year. Are they totally out of the rotation?

I am just glad that I finally have the BTN.

That's what's funny about the BTN, we're all grateful just to have it now. We don't care what it's done to the schedule, because of it I'll never own season tickets. The camera crew and on-air talent is horrible. But after not having it, I'm just happy to have it again.

8:00 starts are the best thing since sliced bread, especially if you work until 6. Sleep is for the weak, or for non game nights.

The 8:00 starts are brutal. We also had more weekend afternoon games.
