With Welch at PG running the show. I'm not sure why Tubby went away from this, but now that he switched back to this, we are back on track. Mav starting and playing major minutes was killing this squad. Kudos to Tubby for finally getting it.
 

Welch was struggling at PG beginning of the year, I still thinks he is. He had too many TOs and he still doesn't pass the ball on a fast break.
 

Of course he is struggling.


He is better than Andre and maverick by a lot at this point.

This. He's not the best PG in the Big 10 by any means, but much more capable than Anyone else we throw out there at PG. He makes things happen out there, unlike Mav constantly stumbling over his 2 left feet. Only 2 turnovers today, 7/8 shooting, 14 points, 6 rebs, 5 assists. I'll take that any day over what Mav has offered starting at PG.
 

Telling tale: Andre Hollins, 11 min, 1 asst, 3 turnovers.
At 33 min, would be 3 asst and 9 turnovers. Hopefully Andre can get it together and start to contribute.

In general, it takes a unique PG to come in as a freshman and dominate the position, and those ones go to the Dukes, Kentucky's, etc. Otherwise it takes some time for PG's in general to get into the speed, intensity, defensive pressure, of D1A level. Andre is just a Freshman, l say let's let Tubby develop him over time, and I think we will be very pleased with Andre.

You don't have to be a Duke or Kentucky player to be a solid starting pg as a frosh. Andre has a ton of talent and I expect him to develop into a very good player. Whether that is as a pg or a 2g remains to be seen.

Right on the money. So we agree that Dre is a little overwhelmed yet, and that he will be fine given patience and time, correct?

Correct, just not sure if it will be as a pg. It's disappointing that he has not done too well to this point. Could it be because of the bad ankle, got behind and then lost confidence? I'm hoping that is the case.
 



But getting back to Welch --- and I don't believe he is the NEW Ray Williams but --- wasn't Williams' 1st year as a JC Transfer filled with early season injuries and then he got better later his Junior year. The next year the Gophers finished near or at the top of the Big Ten IIRC.
 


Dre has been dealing with ankle and hip injuries. I think eventually he'll settle in and be a pretty solid player. Man, Mav was absolutely brutal against the 1-3-1 trap.

Ray Williams was the 2g. Flip was the pg.

BTW there is a big fan of Ray on GH.
 

I just checked Wikipedia and I see Ray got married in August 2011.

Well, for that matter, Bobby was the 2g and Eric was the PG.

Welch gave a forearm shove after the play.

Our free throw defense was quite good.

Bobby didn't play a good chunk of his first year, making his debut in December at the Metrodome against Cal.

If a player scores 10pts in the first half, it's a lock he will end the game with 20pts. Brilliant.
 

Awe, come on guys and gals. If after the 1st 10 minutes were a predictor of things to come Sunday vs. Northwestern, when the score was 18-4, then we would have won 72-16. Damn that Tubby would not let the guys pour it on. He should be fired, he is over the hill, he can't motivate the players. :banghead: :horse: :banghead: :horse: the hell with it..... :drink:

I'm pretty sure it was dboy. m2s might've advanced the same, knowing his dim-bulbedness, but dboy is definitely the "bunny" rambler.
