If there is one story that has dominated the local news in recent weeks, it's been the health of our head football coach, Jerry Kill. By now I am sure you are well aware that Coach Kill suffers from a seizure disorder that, until recently, he has managed to control with medicine. That has proved more difficult of late and Coach Kill has sought the advice of specialists to find a solution.
Few of us can contemplate dealing with such a difficult situation in our daily lives, let alone doing so in such a public manner. I commend Coach Kill for how he has handled this challenging situation and privately encouraged him to do whatever is necessary to find a resolution. We believe in Coach Kill as a leader and a football coach. But our first and foremost concern is for his health and well-being as a person.
Coach returned to work Wednesday and was back on the field coaching the Gophers that afternoon. He has been given a clean bill of health by physicians, who have cleared him to coach without restrictions. Still, we understand that the issue with his seizures is going to be a process.
As with Coach Kill, we are constantly working to make sure that all of our 750 student-athletes receive the best possible medical care. We employ an impressive group of doctors and athletic trainers whose sole focus is the health and well-being of our student-athletes – from prevention and evaluation to treatment and rehabilitation.
The health and safety of our student athletes and staff will always be a top priority.
