Per tjgopher's research, it appears the Gophers will have a pair of MAAC opponents on their nonconference schedule, Fairfield and St. Peter's. Fairfield was the MAAC regular-season champ last season, while St. Peter's won the MAAC Tournament title and the conference's automatic NCAA bid.
Fairfield -- who the Gophers could see a second time in Orlando -- is a solid addition to the home schedule. The Stags return their top 4 scorers from last year's NIT qualifier, where they beat Tim Miles' Colorado State squad in Fort Collins in the 1st round.
Still haven't received official confirmation Gophers are playing NDSU but am keeping Bison on the schedule for now. In my opinion, this is a very solid nonconference home schedule to this point. Some recognizable names (USC & Va Tech) and a couple low-/mid-majors (Bucknell & Fairfield) that are expected to be very good this season. However, a word of caution. ... usually the "cupcake" games are the last ones to leak out to the public. I'll be surprised if any of the Gophers' remaining TBD games are vs. top-150ish-type opponents.
What we know or has been reported about the Gophs' 2011-12 nonconference schedule, with some conjecture (1st-round Old Spice opponent) thrown in. Last season's RPI is noted in parentheses.
