intends to bring in for 2012: scholarship + walkons?

How many scholarships (including Jucos)?

Seems like with all Kill's camp activity, well-received webisode marketing of the program etc and recruiting related travel by his staff, the 2012 class might fill out much more quickly than similar timing for previous regimes.

It appears that there are presently now 18-19 scholarships available for the 2012 class. But this could be reduced if Coach Kill adds one or two more to this fall class. He has stated that they will only do this if the right person is available. Therefore, with the four recruits that have verbaled Minnesota already, there are 14-15 slots still available for the 2012 class. Caution though, this is always a moving target because of variety of factors.

As far as walk-ons, this doesn't even begin to settle out until National signing day and even then it isn't totally clear how many walk-on there will be.

Only 14-15 scholarship slots left for 2012?

Not many...or is this similar to previous regimes at this time of the year?

I am not sure what your question is. Is it about the relatively low number of slots that are available this year before we hit the maximum of 85 or the number or verbal’s we have so far? I will assume it is the latter. We should see a significant increase in recruiting from this point on and well into fall. This is no reason to worry about the numbers at this time.

There is a relatively low number of available scholarships.

This is due to a variety of factors.
First, the attrition under Brew regime opened up a lot of scholarships every year. Second, the last couple Mason classes and the Mase/Brew class were so depleted that we really are just now recovering. As a result of this, we signed a lot of JuCo and we also couldn't redshirt like most programs would like, thus affecting our numbers.

This low number is also why you are seeing some pretty solid MN kids not being offered yet (Larsen, Rallis, Herbert).
