I love you GopherHole, but I want a divorce. After 6 blissful months, it’s time to throw in the towel. Let’s leave on good terms, shall we? I’ll still come by to visit now and then, but I won’t be contributing regularly anymore. I think I’ve made some quality contributions, or at least some quality video/article links if nothing else.

Oh, and I’m sticking you with the triplets (Loon, GopherGod, and ChrisDarkins…but there’s more kids on the way, so watch out, cause GopherGod is multiplying like rabbits)

Loon is looney-tunes, but he’s kinda funny.

GopherGod is a straight up, slime-ball Becky/Hogeye goon and anybody who think’s he’s just a “disgruntled fan”….well, Helen Keller can see it so you better go get your eyes checked.

GopherGod (and his plethora of really crappy other names—deedub0310, ChrisDarkins, Izantys98) should have been banned and bitch-slapped back to Iowa City somewhere between his 200th and 400th consecutive anti-Brewster, anti-Cosgrove, anti-Maturi rant. Rinse, repeat. Rinse, repeat. Got any new tricks? He’s a half-child, half-hog, recycling bin….and the same tired crap goes round and round and round unless there’s a cheap shot he can squeeze in on the side.

Dbagtowner was quite rude to me a short time ago, without any substantiation, and never bothered to respond when I asked him what his problem was. And, as has already been pointed out by others, he hasn't been posting anything of substance, just bashing GG/Loon/etc. As far as I'm concerned, he can feel free to leave and never come back.

I'm sorry you feel that way but the man has ruined many of my threads that I felt were being discussed very well untill he can in with his entirely negative view and then when someone catches him, instead of being a man and correcting himself (like I have done with him) he continues to go on and on.

If you will look at the posts I have made you will have no problem seeing how much of a fan to this university I am...I know its hard to believe but I eat, breath, and sleep Gopher sports. I will question the decision of a coach (as I have with Tubby on Westbrook), I will say I don't care for something (like the Coz hiring) but the clear majority of my posts/threads are looking at potential positives. (unlike some)

The DinkyTowner has added many good comments on many threads. From what I see, DT is fed up with the game-playing of a few posters who are ruining things for true Gopher Fans. While we have a right to post opinions on both positives and negatives, to play games to just piss people off is very childish and immature.

My moniker (Dr.Don on GH) is being used by someone on Myron Medcalf's stribune blog "Gold in the Barn" blog off and on, to spew nonsense and attribute it to me. I do NOT use Dr.Don on Myrons blog.

I am starting to become suspicious why long time posters like GopherLady are defending GG. I think they might know who he is and are in support of what he is doing. During the two years I have been in GH I don't think I have ever seen GopherLady come to the defense of a poster like GG. She has now done it twice in the last couple of weeks. I know she and her tight little group (NateDawg for one) are huge Maturi critics. They have never made any secret about that. Now I am starting to think that Brewster has been added to their sh*t list.

GopherIllustrated is far ahead of GopherHole as a place for Gopher fans to meet and discuss everything Gopher football. The $10.00 monthly fee is VERY effective at keeping out posters like GG. If you are a true Gopher fan you are missing out if you rely on GopherHole as the only place where you interact with other fans.

I really appreciate your insight into GI I have been curious for a while now. Although I do feel that GL does like Brew. I am curious as to why she is defending a poster like GopgherGod, ChrisDarkins, deedub0310 or whatever he wants to go by now. I respect everything that GL does for this site and its people like GG that I feel give this site a black eye on being the premier gopher forum...well maybe its not, the way it sounds GI may now hold that title.

I think as moderators they feel an obligation to be partial. It's a bit misguided. There first obligation should be to promote gopher sports and to maintain a positive site that does that. It's also not always clear who has a dissenting view and who just sucks. That really takes time to become apparent to the point of action. What is painfull for us as users takes longer to cross that threshold for the mods.

Even people who suck that only pop in now and then aren't bad for a forum, it's just those that find a way to hijack each and every thread to their tired old Brewster hating agenda that makes the site worse. Even if they're just dissenters and not trolls this isn't criminal law, intent isn't as important as effect. If they continually reduce the enjoyment for the majority it's OK to ban them.

If this was your take on the situation, it was not my intention. To my knowledge, I have posted about GopherGod twice (as I do not participate in feeding trolls). The 1st time, was in response to someone saying he was Loon. I have no idea if he really is - but I had never seen GG make the same kind of remarks that Loon had made in the past. I also pointed out that he is negative, and many of us don't agree with his views - but he has the right to share them, as long as he doesn't make off-color remarks, use vulgar language, or is disrespectful to other posters.

When I logged on when I got home last night, I saw more posts about him that our players, and it upset me. I posted that I could care less who he is or what he does, let's get back to the topics that involved the Gophers. I also encouraged others that argue with him to take the higher road, move on and ignore him, because he is cleary incapable of that.

I guess I'll have to respectfully disagree that this belongs on the football board. That is for football talk, this is talk about a poster - personally, I wouldn't want this clogging up information I really want to read.

the best way to deal with trools is to ignore them. they want attention and when you try to argue with them, put them in your signatures and start full threads about them it only makes them feel like they are accomplishing what they are trying to accomplish.

my advice to everyone who dislikes the ideas coming from another poster is to use the ignore button--that's what its for. hopefully i am not on everyone's ignore list:D

While I completely agree with the "throw them out of here" sentiment rather then going with the "knee jerk" it's the liberal Minnesotan nonsense look at it like this:

A whole lot of the people responding with "everyone is entitled to their opinion", "let it go", "why be concerned" etc. etc. are people with their own get rid of Brewster and or Maturi agenda. While most of those defenders are solid contributors and probably good people, I wouldn't doubt that they might harbor a soft spot for the hatred and innuendo spread by some of the trolls.

The moderators here I assume are all part-timers who can't monitor everything or maybe they've noticed that the long threads usually are "troll" driven and might want to just let it go. Or the more members you have the better it is for the advertisers. Who knows.

How this can become a freedom of speech issue is beyond me. It's a privately controlled site. The trolls don't have any respect for the site. More likely they are giddy that they can't castigate Gopher fans and the University on a Gopher site.

I highly, highly encourage people to use the "ignore" option. It is an option on your account, not just an attitude. A poster who was focused on attacking everyone on the BB side was ignored by most and went away, (altho I suspect he's back now but better behaved.) If anyone needs directions, ask.

However, I think people who take a moniker so close to someone else's just to cause problems should be removed.

I have been here for a long time. I also post at both GI and Scout. I like all three sites for different reasons.

These are my thoughts on all three:

GI: Far fewer trolls because you have to pay. Most trolls aren't paying. There are a few trolls now and then. By far the best news. Although you get it somewhere else fairly quickly anyway (yep I still pay my $10)

Scout: I am an admin there so take whatever I say with a grain of salt... Smaller board that is getting better. They break a few stories now and then. Affiliated with the national Scout like GI is with Rivals so you can get a lot of news from national writers (Trabis Ward rumor initially started with the Scout Florida writer who posted it on the MN board). A younger group of posters than some other boards IMO.

GH: Don't post here as much as I used to before I started the admin gig at Scout. I read GH regularly and felt sorry for the admins here after we banned a certain someone he immediately came back here with another name... I really like some of things they did here this year with the Kiese series and the Gopherlady interviews.

Bottom line: I like all three and don't see why anyone has to have an us vs. them attitude when we are all Gopher fans.

I think we've seen a huge rise in troll postings, especially on the football board, over the last month or so. I can live with it, and ignore most of them, but I'd rather see the offending posters banned. When you have a thread started by someone claiming that the most recent Gopher recruiting class seems "Mason like" to them...it's pretty obvious the only value of the post is to get angry reactions from actual Gopher fans.

My main problem is with Loon being back (assuming Loon is Goldy74's). The guy has been banned from numerous boards including this one, yet somehow is back to posting here. He tried this last year and was quickly shown the door, but he's been allowed to stay this time. I don't want to be associated with people who have proven to be racist. Loon's posts not only are troll postings but can make the entire community look bad by making it look like we still have discussions about issues that intelligent people came to agreement on in the 1960's. I can't think of a single reason why Loon would be "un-banned" His behavior on other boards has been just as revolting as it was in his time here.
