Play Ball! Big Ten Network Adds New Weekly Studio Show to Baseball, Softball Coverage ‘Big Ten Diamond Report’ begins Sunday; network to produce more than 140 games

CHICAGO – Big Ten Network television coverage of 2011 Big Ten baseball and softball begins on Sunday with a doubleheader of action and the premiere of Big Ten Diamond Report, the network’s new weekly studio show.

The network’s television schedule for softball gets underway at noon ET on Sunday as Purdue hosts Iowa in West Lafayette, Ind. The network’s first televised baseball game of the spring takes place immediately after, at 2 PM ET, when Northwestern travels to Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus to take on Ohio State.

At the conclusion of the game, Big Ten Diamond Report will review the sports’ top headlines, preview upcoming matchups and look at national storylines affecting the Big Ten. Mike Hall and Rick Pizzo host the show along with former Hawkeye pitcher and major leaguer Cal Eldred and Tammy Williams, Northwestern’s former two-time Big Ten Softball Player of the Year.

The show will air each Sunday during the spring through the end of the Big Ten baseball and softball seasons with expert analysis, player and coach interviews, features and exclusive access inside the diamond.

The network is offering its most extensive baseball and softball coverage ever, with at least 140 events on television or online in 2011, including at least an additional 30 live streamed events over last year at www.BigTenNetwork.com. Every telecast will be produced in high definition. The network will nationally televise up to 30 Big Ten baseball games, including the entire Big Ten Baseball Tournament, and stream a minimum of another 50 games. The network will also broadcast 25 Big Ten softball games and stream at least another 37 games online. A selected number of streamed games will be televised on delay through the network’s Student U initiative.

A complete television and streaming schedule can be found on the baseball and softball pages of www.BigTenNetwork.com.
