View Full Version : Obama's PR battle...

If people believe that any sort of spending (and the more the better) will help this economy recover, they will buy what Obama and the Dems are selling.

If they believe that over-spending on pork will make matters even worse, and spending needs to be strategically targeted for specific results, they will never buy Obama's plan.

Count me in the second group. What about you?

Furthermore, opting quickly for the wrong option is never a good thing.

I don't think you have the ability to analyze that your self G4. You're so blinded by right winged ignorance I don't think you could possibly sort out what is stimulus and what is pork and then be able to quantify or qualify it. But keep on spewing. You won't gain any better an understanding but without you and your ilk we'd have to pull the plug on the republican parties life support. Then who'd make the rest look good?

I can tackle it line by line. Do you dare?

The bill will be a mighty expensive flop, but a lot of Dems will have big smiles on their faces. Draw your own conclusion.

I've said this in another thread, and I'll say it again here. The spending on infrastructure and energy will most definitely help out my industry (engineering). If for no other reason than personal gain, I fully support this package.

Omega,

What about the millions on frisbee parks and art galleries?

Should we be in this battle for personal gain or to see the economy recover?

Hey GopherforLife, did you question W's bill when he gave hundreds of millions of pork for his package? If so, please provide a link from your former post. I imagine you were all for the millions that went to the NASCAR track in Bush's package. Do you just disagree with anything a Dem says and agree with anything a Rep says? I'll apologize in advance if you can provide a link to a post where you were critical of Bush's package and ripped the Republicans for their foolish pork spending a few months ago.

You're wasting your breath. Impossible for the man to be objective. It's more productive to chide him, plus you get more coherence out of him that way.

Buying on credit is at the heart of the problem, not the solution. It has ever been thus.

There is a statement I can agree with. That hurt.

Stan,

I was never in favor of the Bush tax rebate or the recent bailout bill for banks and Wall Street. I'm all for controlling spending and reducing taxes, but I suspected the rebate wouldn't work because too many of us would simply deposit it into savings. The bank bailout isn't working either.

I plead quilty to being a fiscal conservative. As such, more often than not, I favor GOP policy, but I become irate when Republicans act more like Democrats. As you may have noted, I was no huge fan of Bush during his second term.

From my perspective, this package will accomplish personal gain and economic recovery. If nothing else, it will keep people in my industry from being laid off.

As for the frisbee parks and art galleries, I think these types of things are important to have, but they will never be important enough to warrant their own bill. Therefore the only way to get funding for cultural things is if they are rolled into a larger bill. Should they be rolled into this particular bill? I don't know. But everybody in this country uses parks or other things that were funded as "pork" and they don't think twice about it. People are only upset when the "pork" isn't for their neighborhood.

Fair enough. I don't recall you ripping the NASCAR inclusion in the Bush package, but I'll take your word for it.

Stan,

No, I didn't comment on NASCAR. I don't think I was aware of it at the time. Now that I think of it, I would've opposed any preference for NASCAR if it didn't treat WWE equally.

Omega,

If money grew on trees we could have all the pork we desired. At some point we have to abandon personal preferences for common sense.

Schnoodler- I like the change of pace you are throwing here. Normally you end a thread angrily hurling insults. This time you are throwing bombs right away. Good creativity.

I need to change it up now and then, otherwise your tired old nonsense gets boring. This at least alters the flow. But thank you for the kind words. Noted and appreciated.
