Just a day after Washington State (5-2) collected 13 runs in its Dairy Queen Classic opener against Oklahoma State, three Golden Gopher (4-4) pitchers combined to shut out the Cougars 2-0 at Kino Veterans Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. on Saturday, Mar. 5.

Senior starting pitcher Phil Isaksson (Eau Claire, Wis.) picked up the win to move to 1-0, as he pitched 6.1 innings, gave up five hits, walked three and struck out three. Isaksson has given up one earned run in 16.2 innings in his three starts.

Sophomore Billy Soule (Hamel, Minn.) entered the game in the top of the seventh and pitched 1.1 shutout innings, as he gave up one hit and struck out a batter.

Scott Matyas (North Prairie, Wis.) picked up his third save of the season, as he pitched 1.1 shutout innings, walked a batter and struck out one
