Looked quite solid with the ball and the boy takes and makes good shots. Real nice shot fake for his first bucket and then a very confident catch-and-shoot three. Its early, but there is definitely some potential in Mavs game.

I can see why Tubby probably likes the kid.
 

Yeah, I agree. I think the posts have been a bit negative about Mav in general. Its only half-way through his freshman year. Who knows how he might improve?
 


He just needs to stay calm, which is obviously easier said than done. All he needs to do his stay in front of his guy on defense, and really do nothing other than make wide open shots on offense. If he tries to do more than that, things get dicey.
 

A bad break for the team losing Nolen for a while. But. like Tubby says, it gives the next guy a chance to play. Maybe Ahanmisi will be ready to take over next year. Already he can shoot.
 



I am very happy with Mav!! Hey Chip is not too bad either!!!
 

If you love a point guard that turns the ball over at an alarming rate, then I can understand the affection.

So, I guess we should not ever give the ball to Hoffbarber either. He has more turnovers than Mav.

Yes, that is a great argument. I should also play QB for the Packers, because I throw fewer picks than Aaron Rodgers.

Tell me, does 20/150 equal 13.3?
And, does 31/645 equal 4.8?

Agree. I thought he played decently yesterday, but he has been a turnover machine.

Team seemed to be best with Hoff at the point yesterday, IMO...

Actually they don't.

20/150 equals .133 and 31/645 equals .048

You have a valid point GW, but remember, Blake spends a majority of his time on the floor as an off-guard, so his turnover ratio should be less than a PG because he doesn't handle the ball as much. By just looking at TO percentage alone, RSIII should be the PG because he has a TO ratio better than Blake. So you can't just look at that one stat in a vacuum. That said, Mav has been a TO machine and his TO ratio is almost double that to Al Nolen's, so TOs have definitely been his issue.
 

Not sure what you are seeing with Mav he looks nervous and overmatched. Making an occaisional 3 doesn't make a good point. How we can go into next year with him as the starting point is crazy. The guy makes me miss Rico Tucker.

If you got further into it, it would only point more to the ridiculousness of comparing their total TOs for the year (due to pace and how the respective players are used in... looking at someone's "PG" classification fails to look at what really is happening). Go take a look at the usage of the two players (Ahanmisi and Hoffarber)... and go take a look at the assist rate of the two players.

Anyway, the point (sorry I didn't put a % or "percent") is that talking about the total number of TOs that the two players have this year is nearly wholly irrelevant.
 

Mav did great given he's thrown in to take over for a senior PG, on the road in the B1G in a hostile environment. This kid played cool and with aggression and kept other players moving, energy this team needed.
 


I'm slowly warming up to Mav.. still not a guy I want leading the team for a season but he is improving. His ability to knock down a jumper cannot be focused on enough. We are lacking jump shooters outside of blake and having Mav hit open shots is big. Plus he really plays within himself..

Id agree with you on this. I thouhgt given the unexpected role he had to play yesterday, he performed very well.

I concur, Cobbs was more steady handling the ball, but was scared to do anything. He wasn't any sorta of threat in the offense at all. Mav will get better with the turnovers, but he can shoot and will take the open shot. And the more I see Mav, the better he is getting.
 

I totally agree. I was not impressed with Mav in Pulley and earlier in the year, but he's growing on me. I'm not sure he'll ever be athletic enough to be a lockdown defender or a guy who can get in the lane, but I'm not sure we need that. If he can develop into a reliably well-positioned defender, a steady floor general who makes the easy pass, and a mid-range jump shooter, I'll take it.
