they don't have one, same problem Tubby had in Kentucky. There he could rely on a star to take over, he doesn't have one here. He's a defensive coach. And when you get beat by the 3 over and over again its more than a personnel problem.

I totally agree on these points. There are a bunch of good, not very good or great players, and a poor coaching job.
 

They could start fixing the offense by putting Nolen's ass on the bench where it belongs. 5 min in each half is plenty for Nolen. You can't be a good basketball team when the point guard can't score, and dribbles 20 seconds off the shot clock on 85% of your half court possesions.
 

Gophers are a better team when Nolen is on the floor, only if because my 3 year old could consistently score on Devoe Joseph. The offense isn't that much better, if at all, with Joseph running the point, and the extra points he gives up make up for any improvement in offense that he might bring.

Al doesn't turn the ball over and plays great defense, but he's not a play maker, and a point guard should not be so, so limited in being able to put the ball in the basket himself.

Defenive coaches don't give up 65-plus points almost every game...
 

Can we not suck at something! Starting to see why the UK fans got tired of Tubby. Middle school offense.
How about recruiting someone that can shoot other than Blake?
 

Seems like our best offensive play is to have a guard drive the lane, draw the help defender over, throw a wild shot off the backboard, and have our good offensive rebounding bigs clean-up the miss. I swear we must have scored 7 or 8 buckets off of that incredible tactic.

Road games are going to give me an ulcer.

The 'Nolen's defense is so fantastic we have to overlook all the problems he causes on the offensive end of the floor' meme is beyond tired.

In the first place, Nolen's defense isn't that great. I agree he's a better defensive player than Joseph, but the gap is miniscule compared to the difference in offense between the two.


Nolen bogs down the offense for many reasons. Every poster here complains about the half court offense...do you suppose there's a connection to a having a point guard who nobody bothers to cover?

There are precious few players on this team that can score, even fewer who can score on their own. Sitting one down for a player who has zero offensive game is a mistake. Why do you suppose Hoffarber is getting so few open looks? Could it be because nobody feels the need to double our post players, and nobody feels the need to even bother to defend Nolen?

Tubby is intent on pounding it inside. That's fine but we turn it over a lot trying to get it inside and the big guys are not good finishers other than from dunk range. We shot less than 50% from 5feet in today and then you have the turnovers while trying. Worse, our big guys almost never pass it back out when they don't have solid scoring position.

All is not lost but this is one shaky looking ship and it was forecast a bit by the number of lesser teams that hung around the whole game against us.

Tubby is 4 years into the MN job. WHY then, do we not have a better point that what is currently on the team?

Yeah, and when they do opt to pass it back out they seem so slow at making the pass that the help defender has plenty of time to recover and guard the three. Frustrating to watch. Most of the Gophers threes are covered while most of the opposition's are wide, wide open.

That's an excellent question.

Unfortunatly, even if you can answer that question, it does nothing for this year.

You can only play the players you have. IMO, a lot more Devoe and a lot less Nolen would ultimately improve this team.
 



Michigan State hits 6 of 7 or something threes to start the second half and you are still in the zone. Not sure if that impacted the outcome but they stayed in it to long. It is obvious that Mbwake creates oppurtunities for everyone else when he is on the floor. As soon as he sat they stagnated.

How do you put together an offensive scheme when you have of team of players that can't shoot?
 

Hold on! It's not over yet. Do we have a lot to work on? Yes! What was improved over last game?
Trevor's offense was 100% improved. Hitting the short jump shot, driving, and making all free throws.
All this in only 22 minutes! We can do it, just need coach to put together some schemes between now and Indiana.
