STrib: Minn. fan accused of assaulting 2 Badgers fans

WISC-TV quotes police as saying alcohol contributed to "a host of bad decisions being made."

I find that hard to believe.:cool02:

No chair leg was found near the site of the incident.

When it happens in Madison, there isn't a kind bar/restaurant owner to escort the Gopher Fans out the back door.

huh?

So, it is illegal to punch out Badger fans?

Bummer.

To be honest, I'm glad to hear the Gopher fan(s) came out on top. At least we can beat the Badgers in one way or another.

I doubt any of the participants in a drunken brawl are too innocent. If that had happended in Mn the headline would have said two Badgers attacked one Gopher. Sounds like he got off more than 20 punches. Thats pretty good. I've seen a few and usually the first punch wins?

I don't know, I have heard that alcohol-related birth defects are the number one cause of enrollment at UW. Decisions don't get much worse than that.

Must have been hard to keep track of how many punches he threw. Unless somebody had a pitch counter handy :)

I kind of expected Dr. Don to comment on this?

I am a lover, not a fighter, MN1nAZ!!! Hence I have this comment: Being in a fight is mostly a guy thing. Being a lover is a better guy thing. :)

So, the Madison papers are saying it was a Badger fan who attacked 2 MN fans...

Two Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball fans were attacked and injured early Wednesday morning following the Wisconsin Badgers victory over the Gophers at the Kohl Center Tuesday night, Madison police reported.

A Badger fan was arrested for allegedly attacking the Gopher fans, in a case of "friendly banter" between rival fans going awry. Francisco Jose Rengel, 22, of Madison, was tentatively charged with substantial battery and disorderly conduct after his arrest at about 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of University Avenue, Madison police said.

One of the victims, a 24-year-old man from Waunakee, suffered a laceration to the left side of his face and a hematoma to his ear, while the other victim, a 25-year-old man from Milwaukee, suffered an injury to the bridge of his nose. According to the police report, Rengel and his friends spotted the two Gophers fans at a bar, following the Badgers' 68-60 victory over the Gophers in a men's Big 10 basketball game at the Kohl Center. "Tensions between the rival fans escalated until Rengel allegedly struck the 24-year-old man 15 to 20 times in an alley on Conklin Place," said Madison police spokesman Officer Howard Payne.

How the 25-year-old victim was injured wasn't known. Payne said the dispute "ballooned out of control," and was a bad example of how far you should go in supporting your favorite team. "This fight should never have occurred," Payne said. "Alcohol definitely contributed to a host of bad decisions being made."

Do drunk people get stupid or do stupid people get drunk?
:cool02:

Stupid stuff, folks. This Badger fan has got to do jail time for this. Perhaps civil action should ensue as well.

We all have to do better than this crap. There are REAL enemies out there who'll literally cut off our heads given half a chance. Sportsmanship needs a resurgence. Think Harmon Killebrew.
