in the past some of us have discussed if/when the gophers would get the ESPN College Game Day crew out to TCF Bank Stadium. i would have to think our 2010 game against USC would be a good possibility. what say you?

It's a possibility if we have a good year in 2009. USC played at Virginia this past season and the game was largely ignored by the National Media because nobody expected it to be competitive. If we're lucky enough to be a ranked team going in to that game I think it is a possibility.

I still wouldn't dismiss the possibility of the Game Day crew being here for the Cal game next season or even Wisconsin if we both get off to good starts.

yep, we would have to DOMINATE syracuse and ariforce for the crew to come to the CAL game, but it is possible to get the game day crew out at tcf.

so we have plenty of time to think up some great signs for the background. any suggestions.

I was wonder where they would after Game Day sit. Northup Mall maybe. Possiblity on the other side of Oak Street between TCF and Williams.

how about this one for the usc game:

"your boy o.j. is taking it up the ass right now and that's what the gophers are going to do to sc today! and don't worry about getting a disease - we will be wearing a trojan!"

I hadn't even thought of the mall as a possibility but it's not a bad idea and it makes me realize that the area in front of Coffman could also work.

I assumed if they came it would be by the stadium. Either right by Williams as you mentioned or they will have a plaza at TCF Stadium that could suffice.

a lot of times they seem to do the game day shows in more of an open, central gathering spot on the campuses as opposed to right next to or in the stadiums. so northrup mall would seem to be an ideal location. you can always cut back to the stadium to do short segments, interviews, etc.

it's actually part of their contract that you must be able to see the stadium on camera. the only exemption in when it's at ND, and they show touchdown jesus.

and you know this how/why? i am not saying you are wrong (for all i know you are right), but would love to see where such a stipulation is spelled out. and why?

Not to burst your bubbles but I don't think gameday even starts until the conference schedule starts. I remember the first few weeks of the season this year, there was no college gameday. I'm not positive on it not starting until the conference schedule but that's what I remember.

back a ways.

They absolutely do Gameday for non-conference September games. See Ohio st vs SC last year...

The conversation came up with the Cal fans, ironically enough, in their hopes of landing gameday for their Tennessee tilt a few years back. someone had submitted the question, and Herbie actually addressed it on the air at some point.

Now, the rules might have changed along the line, but I do remember him specifically referencing ND as the one exemption. I've seen GameDay live at ND, the RoseBowl, and at the LA Coliseum a handful of times. It's alot of fun, the students get pretty jacked for it. It would be great if they came out for a game next year (Air Force, Cal, or Wisconsin)...but at LEAST for the 2010 SC game.

As Wolfman says this is DEFINITELY not true. See link: http://www.collegegameday.com/#/comingtoyourcity

I was wrong, they did start right away, my memory doesn't serve me right. I remembered they had done the Ohio St-SC game but I was thinking that was a month into the season already. Sorry for the misinformation. Thanks for showing that info.

Do you mean in the background of the stage? Cause the Texas Tech/Texas game they set up in a quad like area near the stadium but if I remember correctly the stadium wasn't in the background. This YouTube of the video seems to bear that out. That's the engineering section of campus in the background (I think).

Here's the Texas Tech student paper saying they set up in Engineering Key:
