Week 2 Team of the Week: Minnesota -- Is there any question? No team in the country -- save for Pitt -- plucked a better pair of wins. The difference being, Pitt was expected to win the 2K Sports Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, while the Gophers were supposed to play second and/or third fiddle to the (now it's clear they were overrated) Tar Heels and West Virginia.

Week 2 Team of the Weak: Oregon State -- The Beavers not only lost to relative D-I newbie Seattle (83-80) on the road, they also lost 66-60 at home to Texas Southern. If you thought his brother-in-law's popularity was sinking, how about the popularity of Beavers head coach Craig Robinson in Corvallis? Robinson's feel-good story of a couple years ago quickly has become a thing of the past.

Selection, another nice report. Two comments:

How did we ever keep that RPI powerhouse Long Island off our non conference schedule?

Perhaps Oregon State is a tough place to win. If you can't win with the full force, power and resources of the feds on your side, there must be some institutional issues that keep the beloved Beavers from succeeding.

Nice to see the Gophers getting national exposure from people other than Katz. The local bandwagon will be filling up soon now that we have been "affirmed" by non-Minnesota types.

I even heard a local radio station take 5 seconds off from talking about the Vikings and their circus to mention the Gophers' early-season success. I was stunned. Don't worry. The talking heads will jump off as soon as the Gophers hit a bump in the road.

I'm amazed that Tubby didn't jump all over that Auburn job. An SEC job with so much promise and whatnot (losses to Campell and Samford not withstanding). :cool02:

Question: At about what week does the RPI start to give a real picture of who the best teams are in the nation? Wow, ACC 0-8 vs BCS.

"At about what week does the RPI start to give a real picture of who the best teams are in the nation?"

I'd say by late January/early February the RPI has taken most of its shape. At that point we're about one month in to the conference seasons.

For future Hoops Reports, will the Big Ten wins against top 50rpi teams be cumulative (with the most recent rpi rankings) or will you only put those victories from the most recent week?

Sorry if this has been explained earlier.
