The Rugby team is taking on Nebraska at TCF this Saturday at 5PM. I've never seen a Rugby game, but it sounds like fun! I know it is a club sport, and not an NCAA sport, but it's still representing the U, and it's intercollegiate competition.

Does anyone else think the club sports should get a link from Gophersports.com? I'm not expecting Gophersports.com to promote the Club Sports, but I think there could be some cooperation. edited: after looking at the Club Sports web page, it would have to be brought up to date even to have a link to it. Some of the sports haven't been updated in ages.

didnt think the U even had a rugby club. they should definitely create a centralized place that links all the other University club sports.
so thanks. might have to check this out as ive never been to a rugby game. so games is 5pm... any idea what the Preliminary match @ 2pm is?

Here's a link for the club sports. http://www.recsports.umn.edu/sport_clubs/directory.html

It's a bit of a mess. Some of the links to the individual team pages are broken, some haven't been updated in ages, such as schedules that are a couple years old. They might actually get a few people to show up to their games if they provided information. I've never seen outdoor lacrosse for example (I've seen the MN Swarm once, but that's indoor lacrosse), I might like to check out the schedule.

I have no idea what the preliminary match is. I thought it might be the women's rugby team (we have one), but according to the website, the women are playing against Illinois at the U's Saint Paul campus. (They have a field there?) Maybe the preliminary match is the benchwarmers?

Club sports have really come a long way. It used to be that the club teams would play JV teams, neighborhood teams, high schools, whoever they could get. Now the club teams are real intercollegiate competition, with real championships.

Maybe they will add club level Arena football. :D

Wrong season for lacrosse, but check it out in the spring. The national club lacrosse league (check http://mcla.us and http://www.collegelax.us) includes a lot of the big "Division 1" schools because of Title IX and the regional history of lacrosse, and the better club programs are comparable to middle-tier NCAA Division 3 teams. The top few club programs could probably compete with the lowest tier of NCAA Division 1 teams. Recently UMD actually has one of the better club lacrosse programs in the country. St. Thomas won the "division 2" club tournament championship last year. The smaller club teams are pretty rag-tag, so pick a game where one of the better opponents shows up.
