A 0.500 record in the BT this year is likely a tourney spot, but if you were making a point about a rough end to the sched, I agree; I still think we make 2 wins over .500 in the BT, which should be plenty for a 6 to 8 seed.
You have the right screen name although you should highlight the MANIC part a little more, as that clearly suits your personality

If you don't bring anything to this board, don't post. People were saying the same thing when we were down at Wisky and look what happened. It's a young team, don't give up on them yet.

23-7 (11-7 in Big 10) going into Big 10 tourney.
It's one L (even trade for 1 unexpected W).
I would say 22-8 going into the Big Ten Tournament (that is if we only go .500 the rest of the way).

Going into this road trip, almost everyone was predicting an 0-2 or at best a 1-1 trip. And because we lost today, we give up????
Turnovers in the 1st half and we couldn't solve the 1-3-1 in the 2nd half. Both problems will be corrected.

Relax people. It's one freakin' game. I'm pissed as well but it's a long season folks. If you jump off the band wagon now, don't bother coming back. We don't need fairweather fans.

I'm new to this board but it's good to know one idiotic poster from the other. We lost a very disappointing game today but it just happened to be a multitude of things that came together to make a "perfect storm" that led to a loss. Nolen played probably his worst game of the year, numerous turnovers off of bad passes as a result of the zone defense led to a bunch of easy fast-break points, several open shots in both halves except they weren't falling in the 2nd half opposed to the first half, we were on the road just 3 days after playing a mentally, emotionally, and physically draining game against our biggest rival in Wisconsin, and the overconfidence in being ranked 17th. I expect us to rebound huge against Purdue at home as the boys have sort of "fallen back to earth". Going into the game against MSU, we were undefeated and started to feed into the hype of potentially playing for the Big Ten title but were humbled by them at the Barn. How'd we rebound? By taking it to OSU.

That's hilarious lol. The road does not get much easier, but I do believe we are a top-25 team. And Al Nolen has had a rough game or two. However, he is not horrible. That's like saying Tubby is horrible because he got out-coached today. Tubby's a HOF coach (not saying Nolen is a HOF player).

Again, I look at the morning lines and point out that we were not favored to win this game today. We may have all thought we should win the game, but the pundits thought otherwise...and they're pundits because they are pretty good at this.
The sky is not falling...nothing that wasn't supposed to happen happened today. We went 1-1 on a tough road trip through Madison and Evanston. The road does get tougher, but as the saying goes, it's like fighting with a gorilla...you don't quit when you're tired, you quit when the gorilla's tired. As long as we don't quit, we'll be fine.

Few bought into the myth that we've suddenly become a dominant Big Ten team. We have a fairly athletic roster now with some interesting newcomers. We have nice depth and we're well-coached. We look especially good when everything's clicking and the opposition isn't playing much defense. But we could win any game the rest of the way...or we could lose it just about as easily. Better get used to it.

Many new and young players on the team. We knew there would be some off days and this is one. Don't get exiceted. The boys will learn from this. It's like winning money at Harold's playing pool, don't always show your good stuff.

Say what you want, tho...when was Nolen's last turnover? He had 3 games with 0 if IRC. Best in a long time by a BT player. Things always have a way of evening out.
When I read threads like this, I sometimes wonder why I post on a message board!

nasa35, I take it that you haven't been watching much of the Hawkeyes this year? ;-)
Worst game at PG in a long time by a BT player? That's a little over the top. I watched it, and, yes, he didn't have a great game. But worst in a long time?

Given the youth of the Gopher team, 22-8 is still a pretty good year, though I qualify that by saying they still need to play the games. It would not surprise me to see the year unfold with a better record than that!

Wow, some of you guys just hate the truth. I never said I didn't like Al, I'm glad he's our point guard, I'm very happy with him. BUT HE STUNK the place up yesterday. And yes, I watch as many games as I can and that was, IMO, the worst game at PG in a long, long time. He didn't even play good defense. His passes were lazy and I'll be honest, it looked so pathetic at times it looked like he was throwing the game. (no, I don't believe that, I said "looked like")
But grow up guys, it's okay to be critical as well as complimentary. I like this club, It's just a blip in the road...but how does that change the facts of yesterday's game? I was very disappointed that Tubby didn't just sit him the rest of the game after Al's absolutely pathetic last turnover.

Do you close your eyes and put your fingers in your ears when someone tells you something you don't want to hear? Who said Al hasn't had great games? Does his terrible game diminish his great games? Of course not. You should start a thread that says agree with moonlight posts only; and only post in there.

My question is, other then Mich. St., who else is consistently winning each and every week? The Gophers will have some tough BT games coming up, but they are all potentially winnable. If the Gophers play within themselves, they could win at least 25 games this year.

right on G4L...I think the new Gopher fans are more concerned about this loss than fans w/ any semblance of perspective and realism.
when all is said and done in time for Selection Sunday, a W at UW far outweighs a L at N'western. roads games are tough, road games in conference are tougher...any one you can win is great, most you are expected to lose (check the line for Sunday's game, we were not favored). also, new fans, N'western is not the horrific team they have been in years past (just as we aren't either) nor is Penn St for that matter. for those of you who hear the name "Northwestern" and assume easy win, I hope you gut checked on Sunday. they almost tagged Purdue and were peeved about blowing it and took it out on us. and we let them. plain and simple. they outplayed out.
let's learn from it and kick some ace on Thursday against a very talented Purdue team. the benefit come March of being in the B10 (or the other good conferences) is exactly what we are living through right now; it ain't easy! the sky is not falling, there is a ton more basketball to play...I hope no one out there thought we weren't going to lose another game or anything.

Saying Al Nolen is terrible is not the same as saying he had a bad game. Even a seven year old would know the difference.

speaking of Al Nolen, he has struggled the last few games...I wonder why? just a slump? school issues? family/girl problems? hurt/sick? kinda makes you wonder if something happened...

This is ultimately one of the most frustrating things about being a Gopher fan. It seems like most people give up at the first sign of a struggle. We lost a game. It happens. We are not UNC or Duke. To expect that we lose only one or two games to the elite teams is ridiculous. We pick ourselves up and go from here.
We are young and two years removed from 9 wins. We don't need to expect the Final Four this year. Enjoy the ride and the improvement. With Tubby I am confident that we will be one of the three best, year in and year out, in the Big Ten in the next two or three years. Give it time and don't expect miracles. The fact that we are where we are right now is great and it will be a great ride the rest of the season.
I for one am jealous that I can't be there in the states to witness things this year. Be grateful for what you have. I'll be back next year with a smile and a voice to cheer on my team.

Give Nolen a couple of "bad" games and you'd rather look everywhere except the most obvious place for an answer. What makes you think it's anything outside the team environment?
Maybe it's Tubby and his substitution pattern. Maybe the trainer taped his foot the wrong way. Could be the black knee brace. Maybe the purple locker rooms aren't his taste in decor. The temperature has been below zero, maybe that's the reason.
Same applies to Hoffarber's "slump." Is he having school issues? family/girl problems? hurt/sick? kinda makes you wonder if something happened... What about Iverson... What about Busch...
Of course, I gave my theory after the Wisconsin game (and many games prior in a less outspoken manner). Just remember, left untreated, "cancer" spreads and ultimately kills off the host.

clearly Lawrence Westbrook has created Al's problems.
What do you have against the kid? And why the hatred all of a sudden. It isn't like he joined the team last week.

I'm guessing its because he's human and is just going through a slump right now. It's too bad he's not as good as guys like Joe Mauer who gets 3 hits every game and is never, ever in a slump.

I thought I heard something about him banging his knee bad and wearing a brace because of it. Maybe he's still recovering from that. Or maybe its just that he's a Sophmore point guard and a lot is expected of him and he is feeling some burden because of it. Yeah he had a bad game against NW, but so did everyone. We had 19 turnovers in that game. The team didn't come mentally prepared for the game and it showed.
We will rebound, and I am predicting a win against Purdue because of that game. If we had won against NW, I wouldn't be so sure about our chances versus Purdue, even at home. Tubby's teams have a penchant for bouncing back.

Sorry, I get to throw my two cents in - If my opinion is as good as anyone else's I think it could be that Al is just getting caught up in the hype about him and maybe believing it a bit much. Al's gotten a HUGE amount of press over the last weeks and expectations are high. Two bad games makes a trend.

Let's see...
Maybe because we already beat OSU, Wiscy, PSU and Iowa. Two of those have a great shot to be tourney teams.
Maybe because two of our three losses have come against likely Sweet 16 teams.

Thats good advice coming from someone with 15 posts. This team played nobody in the non-conference other than Louisville and beat 4 average B10 teams. Im sorry some of you like going to the NIT every year but some of us have higher expectations and are sick of being in the bottom half of the B10.

Anyway, I have forgotten more Gopher hoops than your "I only show my face after losses a**" will ever know.
I guarantee the Gophs will make the tourney and they will win more than 22 games. I will be here to show my face if that doesn't happen. Will you be if it does? Somehow I'm guessing not.

I think we are going to be just fine. We are not going to win the Big Ten this year, but NCAA's are very attainable. Let's not forget, we only have 3 losses so far. Even with a weak schedule, I imagined much worse. At the same time, we can't afford three loses in a row.
