Dan Monson

if he was coaching last night, we would have loss by 20 or more. good thing Tubby was the coach. that was awesome.

Yeah, Dan Monson would've only lost by 15. Don, however, is almost 80 years old...but did have a decent record in his prime. :)

Note: Don Monson is a Minnesotan (born in Menahga actually).

Dan is a classy guy, a smooth communicator, and a great coach. We should have given him another 2-3 seasons to prove himself. Just my opinion.

And this is why everyone thinks you are an idiot on this board....

I'm pretty sure 99.999999999% would rather have Tubby right now then Monson, but if you want to be wrong again, go ahead.

Gopher Guy

You must be very new to this board or you wouldnt have written that. Yikes. The joke is on you.

G4L's statement is tongue in cheek and if could be would've been the first to escort Dan out of town

13,145 Posts?

That's funny stuff, but how do you get 13,145 Posts? I barely have time to read the great contributions here, let alone to do a lot of posting. Hats off to you if you have time for another life.

You obviously don't know G4L :)

here's how:

We all owe a lot to G4L for his long-suffering campaign of subterfuge to keep Dan here for as long as he did. The timing turned out to be perfect for us to get Tubby. Clearly a prescient case of demanding high expectations combined with a subliminal knowledge of what is the best for the U that allowed us to lure Tubby from Ky. :)

Snowman,

Eight posts in one thread to complete a single sentence? Thankfully, I've never had to play that game.

I know Dan was not the best coach but he did take us through those probahtion years. Tubby did inherit a lot better situation then Dan did.

What's the difference G4L? I've seen you repeat the same sentence in eight consecutive posts.

Meanwhile just for old time sake, Monson is 5-0 in the Big West. :)

You're right -- you play a different game: posting the same sentiment multiple times in the same thread or multiple times in different threads. How many posts on cookies from Gopher Lady? Or posts on Monson's personal hygiene? Or posts on Gopher fans "settling for mediocrity?" Or posts on how selfish Lawrence McKenzie was? Or posts on whether Tollackson's major would help him later in life? ;)

What's a guy to do when many aren't bright enough to get it the first time?

Lets let this thread die a natural death. Mr. Monson has moved on and anyone here with class wishes him well.

I wanted to wish him well (somewhere else) after his second season.

Though Dan Monson did not prove to be the caliber coach the U thought he would be when originally hired, he did inherit a mess and had to coach handicapped on scholarships and players, along with having to deal with tough issues, such as players who were one and done at the NCAA level, in one case only playing for himself!

Not trying to say Monson handled everything right, just that what he did accomplish was to keep the program going through very difficult times. Most of the better coaches would not have even gone there to coach in the first place and MN truly got an unexpected gift in Tubby.

All this to say in regards to Monson is that he deserves some slack, IMO. I wish him well and from what I understand he is doing pretty well in his current position for which I am happy for him.
