You know, before I unsuccessfully tried to sleep last night, a thought crossed my mind: Our team has spurtability.

Now, I know that "spurtability" in the conventional sense that was created by Dukie V means having the players to go on a big offensive run to put teams away. But I would suggest the Gophers have their own form of spurtability and it has nothing to do with offense.

The Gophers' ability to spurt comes from their defense. There seems to be spurts in just about every game where the defense comes up big and allows the Gophers to make a run at some key juncture. I guess you could interpret this as defense leading to offense, which is really what college basketball is all about. But that is something this Gopher team has that other Gopher teams haven't had.

And it has been showcased in the wins over Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State and Wisconsin. The Gophers know how to turn up the heat when it counts most and that, at least to me, falls under the category of "spurtability."
