Not one player from the Minneapolis City Conference....sad!

Randy Shaver loves the private schools.
Randy Shaver loves the west and northwest metros.

The CB from Eastview is the only player from the South Suburban Conference on the list, he is not a top 10 player in the conference.

Anyone real knowledgable about this group of players want to ID the ones who will get D1 athletic scholarhips?

Note to Randy

This was from the Star Tribune report after the first week of play.

Senior Trevor Lueders also made Friday's game a display of his football versatility. He led the Panthers with 18.5 sacks last season but started Friday at fullback rather than defensive end.

He helped put the game out of reach by rumbling for a 46-yard score in the third quarter.

"We really wore them down in the second half," Lueders said.

This was from the game against Orono, which they won 35-6

Is he the next big thing for Glencoe Silver Lake? Possibly a schollie or walkon Fullback? Currently playing fullback at 6'2 and 200. If Cotton who is a red shirt sophmore, replaces Hoese next year, then Lueders would have two years of U of M weight training and conditioning. He could carry 240.

Kline

Why is the U not on the list of schools recruiting Kline? He's right in our backyard! He has all of the physical tools. Is this why this school is such a perrenial loser? We don't even go after our best kids in the state!

Yes, the U of M is a bunch of morons, as is Iowa, Wisconsin, and every other D1A school in the country, since none of them have offered him a scholarship either.

This quote is insane. Frank Veldman is likely THE BEST player in the conference. A monster at FS who also doubled as a great WR. Nobody stood out on the field this year like that kid. Rosemount certainly had the best and deepest team in the conference, but Veldman was the best player I saw this year, by quite a bit.

Come on, Rosemountian, i expect better from you.

Hayes from St. Thomas Academy didn't make the pre-season list and he is committed to Stanford. There is another Hayes (Junior) on their OL. Would be nice to get kids like this to stay home.

I know a bit about a few:
Moundsview's Duffy is a really good player, not elite height for a TE, but good speed (4.7), bulk(240), strength(320 power clean), and hands, absolutely amazing personality, coaches kid, yes sir no sir kinda kid. Can't say enough good things about him.
Has an offer to North Dakota, interest from a few others including Ivy League. Not sure if he has gotten any interest to walk on from the U.

Longendyke is a big time wrestler, I think a Nebraska commit.

Reetsma from SLPSA is a freakish athlete, 6'4ish 260ish high jumped 6'0'' in track and ran the 100 in some meets along with the throws. Spring Lake Park produces some great athletes, they have an incredible strength program over there.

I have come to the determination that posts about MN high school players are the most worthless on the board. Every time, without fail, they turn into a pissing match, wherein every poster shows their biases toward their school/conference, and nobody really knows anything more about 3rd party schools than anyone else. That is because it is physically impossible to see all of these kids play in person every year.

Shaver doesn't know any more than the average MN HS football fan. He's relying on info passed on to him from coaches who have seen more of these kids play in person than any of us. Don't get pissed at Shaver - get pissed at the coaches for passing on "bad" information.

SLP has a kid weighing 260 playing LB? That's almost unfair!

That made me laugh thinking about the kid in JR high that couldn't play positions because of size.

I'm an acquaintance (friend?) of Westerhaus's HS coach. He says he's legit. He acknowledges they don't play the top competition but told me that when he's gone to camps he has still stood out in the crowd. "He's just a stud." He thought his best position is TE, but says with proper coaching he could be a heck of a linebacker. Take it for what it's worth, but this guy isn't one to BS about a player.

Are any of these players either being recruited by the Gophers or committed to the Gophers?

Let me preface this by saying that I went to high school in Minnetonka, so I really have no agenda to hype these kids but I have moved up to Rogers and they have one hell of a team this year in 4A, two players to watch if you get a chance on TV, I think these guys have a shot at D-1......Derrick Waters #11 is the one that really caught my eye, he's a DE and TE. I was chatting at school conferences with my son's math teacher who is a Rogers ass't coach and apparently UMD is looking at him.

The other player to watch is Vidor, he's #21, he's a DB and WR/RB.

Usually when a team like Rogers makes a jump and comes out and has a dominating season like this it's because they have a couple of stud players, and I have seen these guys, they can flat out play. There was one other Rogers player who made the Star Tribune All Metro, a LB, not sure of his name but makes sense, their defense has been dominating this year. They play in the 4A Quarterfinals vs. Mahtomedi on Saturday at the Dome, not sure if those games are on TV or not.

Upon review, Veldman is top 10. He is definitely not clearly the best though IMO. The 4 big linemen from Rosemount and also their FS, Eagans QB and Top WR, Veldman, Lakeville South QB, Burnsville RB would be my top 10 players (in no order) from the conference. Veldman is definitely a top 4 players in retrospect, it is hard to judge a linemen compared to a guy like Veldman, those guys at Rosemount are studs (especially when all on the same line).

Good preseason pick by Shaver. He did have the SSC underrated in the preseason though. If Rosemount finds a way to win the state title, it would be hard to argue it wasn't the top conference in the state this year.

It is probably the best conference this season no matter who wins the title.

As far as Rosemount (and i've only seen them play once this season so please correct me), they have such a dominating line across the board it is almost hard to judge each of those kids individually. I'm not holding that against them, it's just easier to look awesome when the person on your right and left is all conference/state caliber as well.

It is just tough to judge because it is hard for a single O-lineman to take over a game. Together, the Rosemount O-line is probably the best unit (QB, RB, OL, WRs, DBs, DL, LBs) on any team in the state.

That's a good point too.

Yep, Rosemount's O-Line absolutely carves teams up.

I know they have 3-4 guys who they think will be at least FCS linemen. 2-3 of those guys they think could get late Big Ten offers...getting interest from WI, Mich St. And the contact with them has been picking up in the last month.

My son plays for Rosemount and they no doubt have one of the top offenses in the area from what I've seen this fall. Larson makes the offense go with his ability to run the veer like nobody has in years at Rosemount. His decision-making skills are excellent. Hausman is an awesome RB who is getting some looks from colleges and so is his running mate. The O-Line is tough as nails and loves to dominate the action. Their LB's are not mentioned enough and both Matt Larson and Jordan Tumilson will be back next year along with a very talented group of juniors. The Junior class has been very successful all the way through the football system and haven't lost as of yet... Watch for some pancaking Friday night in the dome. The Gophers better be recruiting some of the SSC players.

By the way, Veldman, from Eastview, is the best Safety in the state according to many coaches and could start for the Gophers in 2 years. 6-4 215 and he can run as well as hit.

Larson is the 2nd best QB from Rosemount in the last 5 years IMO.
Had Vogler not broken his hand in the state quarters, Rosemount may have had a chance at winning in 2008. Vogler > Larson in my opinion. Larson has gone from okay to very solid in the past year and a half though.

Vogler was a monster in that offense. I think Larson might throw it a little better, but who knows? Vogler and his group were great. I thought the O-Line they had that year was one of the best i've seen in a while. I remember watching them dominate Matt Garin all game long. This year's OL is great, too.

I love watching that offense. They execute it so well, and they've been fortunate to have some really good, big fullbacks.

I still say Veldman stood out more than any player i watched this year. He was a monster on D. He has great range and he's a hitter, too. It was fun watching him play and I wish the Gophers had a coach so they could recruit him. He's a D1 FS in my opinion.
