Shooter says today that John Harris to be named head Golf Coach at the U. Big time hire but with losing Tank to Iowa St we may lose that foreign connection that him and James had. Hopefully Brad will direct some more aussie kids here.
 

Hopefully he will not teach them to hit shots over the grounds crew while they are in the fairway, or hit to greens they are working on like he himself did on countless occasions at Edina CC when I was on the crew there. Everyone on the crew thought he was a total tool.
 

I don't like this hire at all. Golf has been one of the most successful programs at the U over the last decade and they are bringing in a guy who is nearing 60 and has never recruited for this job. Added to that, both assistants have now left rather than play for Harris. Andrew Tank got the Iowa State job and the women's assistant simply resigned.

Would have been nice if the hire had been made prior to last week's USGA boys and girls junior championships -- the biggest national tournament of the year. It's not like Maturi hasn't known he was going to have an opening since January or anything.
 


That this turned into a nightmare isn't exactly a huge shock. Had never been a coach. Had no idea how much effort it takes. And that was even before the whole lawsuit thing.

First and only rule of non-revenue coaching: Don't get sued and don't violate any rules. Really how hard is that?
