I do not know why Brewster didn't seriously consider Hohensee. I think he would have been a risk worth taking. I think the guy would have done a great job here. He's got a lot of pluses on his side.

1. Played at the U of M
2. College quarterback
3. Head coach for 14 years
4. Wants to be here
5. He has a vast understanding about offense.
6. I'm sure he'd be willing to take a one year contract like Cosgrove.


I know Hohensee coached in the arena league but college football offenses are becoming wide open like the arena league. I know people will comment if he was that good he'd be coaching college ball right now. There are times when coaches seem to come out of nowhere and turn out to be very good coaches. I think Hohensee would have been one of those coaches.

I think Tim Salem would be great if we can get him. He did some great things as OC at UCF.

I'm a little concerned about his demotion to ST/TEs this past year. Was it just George O'Leary wanting to bring in his own guy or were there other issues at play?

-oc at ucf for 5 years
-also coached rbs for the first time in 2007, the year in which Kevin Smith led the nation in rushing
-set school records for scoring, and tds
-avr. 35.9 ppg 17th in the nation
-9th in the nation in rushing yards per game
-34th in ypg in 06, he coached wrs that year as well and helped Mike Walker become a 3rd round pick
-coached Brandon Marshall
-offense was 40th in the nation in 05
-was qb coach at OSU where he coached Joe Germaine to big10 poy, he had 10 games with 300+ yrs passing.
-Also was qb coach at Purdue as well as OC there for 3 yrs. They led the big10 in rushing in 95 under his coaching.
-Also he is a St.Paul native and former gopher qb.

They did only win 3 games this past year. Seemed to have some issues at qb. The 3 qbs who played combined to throw only 12 tds and only had a 42.9 completion %. Only 1395 passing yrds too.

I never said that but I have a feeling that the offer isnt so sweet to the best guys cuz of the Davis position.

That's what I've been thinking through this. This seems almost like a co-offensive coordinator job. Some won't mind that; some will.

He does have the prerequisite of being on the Wisconsin staff at one time and would provide the stability we need, after all he did stay at Iowa State for a whole month before bolting for a better job.

Let's see...

- He's been an assistant to Scott Linehan for two years (learned under a good offensive mind)

- 7 years as QB coach at Wisconsin when they were winning under Alvarez (shows continuity and some loyalty), coaching three QBs who had relative success (1, 2 & 4 rated QBs for Wisconsin).

- Has head coaching experience (albeit at two Nevada(hyphen) schools)

I don't see this as a "killer shot" hire, but he's got B10 experience under a winning program, along with pro experience. I wonder what the word is on his recruiting ability...

I'll take a wait and see approach if Horton turns out to be the new OC.

Tim Salem probably would be my choice of those mentioned if Heupel is not interested, though I hope there is someone better being discussed at this time behind closed doors!
