this is directed towards any free loaders athletes enjoying a free education on behalf of minnesota taxpayers.

i have been going to the u of m for 7 years. first i paid 80k or so to get my undergrad degree. that was an absolute joke, and i graduated with a 3.9 GPA. i am now in law school at the u of m, and i am sick of the excuses. i am going to pay 120k to get my JD, and i value my education. i wish someone would pay my tuition so i could mail it in and not show up for a rivalry game. i wish i could get a free education for working out a couple times a week. i hope our recruits go to other schools. what a joke. trot me out there every week, and i guarantee you that those iowa sons of bitches would have had to stop me from kicking, screaming, and punching in order to get that stupid pig.

while i am going to the u and paying 40k per year, you clowns show up for a free education. unbelievable. i will never stop being a gopher fan, but i have never been so embarrassed to be a gopher fan. and i have been a fan for 8 odd years. i would rather have 75 kids who love the U and who fight hard every play and go 0-12 every year than watch the bullshit effort i saw tonight. what a joke. i would rather show up and cheer on the biggest bunch of wanna be big ten athletes every game rather than watch the pathetic display that i witnessed tonight.

you all can judge me for being hard on a bunch of young kids, but these kids are getting paid 100k to deliver results. if you dont want the pressure, go to st. cloud state. if i could get free tuition to get stiff armed by shonn greene and look like a bitch, sign me up. call me a neophyte gopher fan, but i have reading this site for years. the fans deserve more. enjoy the motor city bowl, and the free education: you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

i think i would rather go 0-12 every year and have our kids contribute to society rather than have these kids get free educations for their piss poor efforts on saturdays. is this what i am paying hundreds of dollars for?

The next time you pose as a disgruntled "U student" at least look up what the cost of tuition is at the U.

Or for future reference:

$43,000 for an undergraduate degree,
$25,000 for 2 2-year graduate degree,
$50,000 for a 4-year grad degree.

You could do the same!!!!

For all those like you who want to complain about how much you are paying to go to school maybe you should also remember their are cheaper options for you as well. It works both ways congrats on your GPA and your law school and all you plan to do but you chose to pay the dollars to go to the U of M knowing full well what the cost would be. You could have gone to other places as well adn not have worried about the football program.

A great post. Thanks for sharing your outrage. I couldn't have put it better myself.

i will never stop being a gopher fan ...

Ah, but you stopped being a fan immediately after that sentence when you wrote:

... but i have never been so embarrassed to be a gopher fan (due to) the bullshit effort i saw tonight. what a joke. ... the pathetic display that i witnessed tonight.

Frankly, I'm more embarrassed by your displayed need for projection of motive and the lack of perspective and balance -- especially coming from someone enrolled in law school. And I'd be more embarrassed by a breakdown in sportsmanship and/or profligate breaking of laws than when a team loses to another team due to talent and/or execution.

While i share your disappointment in last night's game, I'm not going to throw this team or coaching staff under the bus and decide they're just going through the motions or defrauding the University.

walk on and earn a scholarship then you can go to school for free. college football is so easy, i bet every guy on the roster is just going through the motions. i am sure they are ashamed of themselves. no one likes losing 55-0.

this is why football is the greatest sport in the world, because it can humble you at anytime. (see texas tech or even Wisco having to beat Cal Poly to go to a bowl) nothing is safe in football and you cant take anything for granted.

Fans support their teams. It's an emotional contract. Deriding this team is not support. You sir, are not a fan.

yeah i was pretty drunk when i wrote that; i typically don't like to be "that guy" on these types of boards. i should have saved my cathartic rants for non-public fora. i can't believe i posted my GPA. if i read that in someone else's post, i would immediately assume that person was a major d-bag. i assure i am only somewhat of a d-bag. on the other hand, i am pretty happy with my drunk editing skills--snowman, as the board's leading grammarian, i am sure you can find some more and point them out.

to save people the trouble of reading my previous post, here is my main beef:

i coined a term for the look the gophers had when the going got rough--the gopher sag. it didn't matter how much time was left, the kids acted like the game was over. i thought the gopher sag went out the door with glen mason (i think glen takes too much heat in general, he did a magnificent job of taking this bottom feeding program and making it semi-relevant). last night was the first night under brewster that i saw the gopher sag in full effect. i couldn't believe my eyes. in fact, last night was the first gopher game i have ever left early. as proud as i am of the gophers and their season, i couldn't deal with such a debacle--especially with 15000 iowa fans having the times of their lives, sad lives that they may be.

i guess, like a petulant child, i felt the need to throw a fit. i just don't understand how these kids put forth so much time and effort in being student athletes, and then poof, the passion is gone on game days. many of you have suffered as gopher fans for many more years than me; you truly bleed maroon and gold. my post was not meant as anti-gopher vitriol. i just wish these kids loved the U and its teams as much as some of us do. i guess i take issue with the team (and coaching staff?) mailing it in. the free ride and tax issues are secondary. i just hope these kids realize what an opportunity they have and take advantage of it to its fullest extent.

it's fair to question my gopher fanaticism after such a post. for what it's worth, i will still be watching and rooting for the gophers every game. but i would be lying if i said that my normally unyielding gopher optimism didn't take a major hit yesterday. yesterday was on par with the michigan and wisconsin debacles for me. hopefully this was just a blip on the radar, and the program continues its upswing. either way, i will still be there for every gut-wrenching, grown-man-tear-inducing moment.

go gophers.

Demoralized might be a better description of the 'gopher sag' you saw. And just like a childs behavior it doesn't get corrected until after they exhibit it. So we'll see how Brew handles the let down. But I watched the same game and didn't see the 'sag' until after we were down 27-0 and the D had been on the field for virtually the entire first half, stopping the best RB in the conference no-less.

They were the team best able to exploit our weaknesses and they did.

yeah that was harsh. and stupid. i don't.

bad and excessively harsh thread name too--my bad.

i am going to try to treat the iowa game as an anomaly. this team fought hard against the badgers even after 2 safeties and 2 fumbles inside their own 15. past gopher teams haven't even got off the bus at madison.

and no matter what fat pat says, the gophers are on the up and up.

go gophers.
