In this months PGA Partners Magazine they did a Q/A with Lou Holtz. Lou plays to a 12 HDCP and he indicated one of his crowning achievements were his "7" holes-in-one. Someone once said the odds on a hole-in-one were 10,000 to 1. Now I don't know if that stat is taken from the average
score of a golfer which is still 100,or another grid. I just find it amazing that a 12 HDCP would have 7 holes-in-one. I play between a 10-12 HDCP and I have zip! Ogee,or anyone else do you have any friends, etc. that have such a bazaar degree of success on the golf course? What is also strange is that I've never been a part of a group of golfers who have shot a hole-in-one. And I've played with some good bangers in tourneys and outings. I was in a tourney where one of the guys I was playing with got a double-eagle which odds wise is right up there with an ace. The guy also had been the Big Ten Golf Champion for the Gophers so I think you would certainly give him better odds than a weekend hacker.:)

I have had a single digit handicap since I was 16 years old. The number of rounds of golf I have played in my life numbers in the thousands. I have one hole in one on a regulation course, and one on a Par 3 course. There are plenty of pro golfers that don't have seven holes in one. It is possible that Holtz has done it, but I am skeptical.

Apparently the only golfer with more holes-in-one than Lou Holtz is Kim Jong Il.

It sounds kinda fishy to me.

ANyway, if they announce a king of 5 to 10-putting, I will be near the top of the list there.

Ruppert, I was with my buddy that runs the Lakes Area Pro Golf Park in Ideal a few years back when he aced #17 at Whitefish. It was so damn dark we didn't see it go in. Used to play a lot of late afternoon golf back home; in resort/lake country, you're the only one on the course up there later in the day.

My 4th grade homeroom teacher at Pequot, a female golfer, aced the same hole twice in 10 days in the early 90's I think.

A guy playing behind me at Breezy Championship Course (whatever they're calling it nowadays), aced #2, a 285-yd (uphill) par 4, for a double eagle. Crazy. I heard him scream from the next box and just assumed he chipped in for eagle on the short par 4.

I don't have an official one yet. Two years ago, I was playing/practicing down here on my "home" course, hit two balls off the tee on a 150-yd par 3, teed up a third and dunked it in on the fly with a 9-iron. Call it a hole-in-five?

I've got a tournament first thing in the morning tomorrow, so who knows... it could happen!! I was playing last Friday and holed out from 72 yards on a short par 4 for an eagle, hadn't done that in a while.

The #2 at the White Birch Course ( Breezy Point) I've eagled that twice although I felt rather sheepish because it is such a short par 4 ( 265-285 depending on the markers you use) The closest I've ever come was at Columbia Golf Course ( Public) in northeast Mpls. On a short par 3 on the backside I believe about 105 yds I hit the flag portion of the pin and the ball kind of wrapped around the flag and then dropped straight down hit the edge of the hole and stopped about 6 inches.

Ruppert:
You mentioned Columbia Golf Course in MPLS. I was playing golf one day with a friend when I mentioned I had never seen a hole in one. My friend Dan mentioned he has seen about 24 or 25 in his group with about 6 or 7 of those his. They play the Mpls city courses about four or five times a week. Not sure about his buddies but Dan is a 3 or 4 hdcp.

Dan owns the Rivergarden in Nordeast Mpls. His father Tony started the place. Tony played buckets for the Gophers and the Lakers.

Check it out when you are down for a game.
