Next: Nonconference home games vs. opponents that ended up in the top 100 of the RPI.

When an element of your non-conf basketball schedule is behind Penn State, you're in rough shape.

It doesn't get much better when looking at NC home opponents who ended up being ranked in the top 100 of the RPI. We've only played one of those (NDSU #87 in 2008-09) in Tubby's first three seasons. That means:

(A) We haven't been willing or able (or both) to schedule a major conference opponent (which increases the odds of it eventually being a quality opponent) at home; and

(B) Joe E/Tubby are not very good at identifying or are unwilling to play under-the-radar quality home opponents (top 100) outside the Big 6.

I'll have those totals tomorrow for all the Big 10 schools. I've already completed three schools. ... one has played 6 top-100 home NC opponents over the last 3 seasons, one has played 4 & I've already mentioned who has played only 1.

MSU also had the game vs. UNC last year at Ford Field. So I give them at least 2.5. Makes our one look even worse...

True. To keep things "clean" I'm not counting any games played at Ford Field, United Center, Conseco, etc. Only non-league home games played on true home court are counted.

This is interesting but don't forget these.

4 Home games vs. top 115 RPI
4 Neutral games vs. top 20 RPI (5 vs. top 100)
2 Away games vs. top 100 RPI

As a season-ticket holder my consistent beef with scheduling is the Gophers' nonconference home schedule. Who we play on the road or at a neutral site is not relevant to my point. The main point being, I'd like to see a decent November-December opponent (one that has a legitimate chance to beat us) come to Williams Arena more than once every blue moon.

Maybe Tubby is worried that we cannot adequately prepare for BCS schools by practicing in an old barn.
