And then Ohio State shot the best I have ever seen, at any level of basketball, in my lifetime, including in ESPN highlights. Most of their shots didn't even come close to touching the rim, and those that did rolled on around and in (as opposed to Hoffarber's 3 miss, which rolled in and then out and could have stifled that run - instead of a 6-point game, Lighty made another driving layup to push it to 11). F***ing ridiculous.
That said, the fact remains that that game was MUCH closer than the final 29-point score, and note that Ohio State kept their starters in and poured it on the final five minutes instead of letting up.
If the end of this game, where Ohio State simply made every shot they took (and that's hardly an exaggeration), pushed the Gophers out of the tourney, that's really not fair. The Gophers didn't make a lot of the shots that they could have, but in reality, ANYBODY that Ohio State played today would have gotten beat by 20+, West Virginia, Duke, etc. all included.
The worst part is, Ohio State is good, but not THAT good, as evidenced by poor performances against Michigan and Illinois, for example. It's sad that they decided to bring their A+ game for today and only today. Had they shot and played like that against Illinois and Michigan, the Gophers would be a lock. That they didn't play well until the last quarter of today's game is just bad fortune - but what Minnesota fan would expect any less? Minnesota fans have the worst luck of all fans in the nation, and after the past 3 games, this was "due." We, for whatever reason, deserve to suffer, and if it means that the opposing team hits an unprecedented 90+% of its shots when the Gophers need anything but, then it will happen.
